Pretty much the response with any high-profile game. Seems like most reasonable people I encounter are considering it more along the lines of "Really good, not amazing".

Frankly, I'm bitter because of what it could have been. Along with forced viraling.

It's the same as always, the normal (read: casual) crowd is amazed by how amazing bioshock infinity is, just how they are amazed how incredibly, godly, hard dark souls is. If you played your fair share of games and wasted your fair share of time, your opinion will be wildly different then the overall mass hysterya, just like anyone who invests a lot of time into something.

I disagree, I've played a good many games both from the mainstream and indie ones and Infinite still stands out as having the best characterisation of any game. And the storyline, art, atmosphere and general depth are in the top ten IMHO. I think the reason people are so polarized about it is that some people love it (me being one of them); it's a known response that humans have. If someone loves a band and raves about it all the time you are more likely to either join them in it or go on about how much you hate the band. That is exactly what's happening in this thread. People nitpick every little detail that people who went into the game without hearing everyone rave about can look past.

I have to agree with this, to elaborate further in metephore, it seems like people are listening to a great Metal song, and complaining that it's not more like country. A game doesn't have to be procedureal, open world, sandbox to be great. For what this game is, a shooter with a set story, it's amazing. I found myself absorbing the world for more details, and loving every little detail to be found in a poster, through the recordings, and just through the state of the world.

Yeah, that was what I enjoyed the most while the game was going, especially near the beginning. The sheer amount of stuff there was to take in, it felt like every area had enough content to just be able to stay there for ages and take it all in. That petered out a bit toward the end, but by that point the story and characters were consuming my attention.

I found myself walking through the world, because it felt like if I ran I'd miss something, both flavour and pickups. I agree about the end too, your awe eventually wears off, but at that point, you just have to see things through to the end.

It sounds a lot like people's complaints about this game compared to the first Bioshock is similar to what I found weakest about the differences between Deadrising 2's storyline compared to the first.

Certainly is has much of the same themes and feel but it is a much more shallow experience.

Finished it earlier.
An excellent game, but still not as good as System Shock 2. :P

I think the best part of the game was before the raffle, when you were just wandering throughout Columbia.

Having played both Dead Risings and both Bioshock I have to say it's nothing like this. The combat isn't as good as the first, but everything else is leaps and bounds beyond the first. It is most definitely not more shallow than the first. The whole thing is so deep it's unbelievable.

I'd argue with that characterization. It's no more deep to me than previous Bioshock games. It's simply prettier.

Couldn't agree more.

I loved the first two Bioshocks, this was just...meh.

I'm doing a second playthrough and oh god, there's such an unholy amount of foreshadowing in this game (and places and conversations I missed, which is always nice). Only makes me appreciate the story more.

Any suggestions on weapon and Vigor choices this turn? I went with sniper/carbine and heavy pistol for most of my first playthrough.
