Snake:5 is pretty tricky. There are greater nagas and guardian serpents everywhere, and they take a lot to go down. I cleared the entrance vault with some legendary decks of summoning, but I ran out of them. I have some more stashed away, but I think I'll rather clear the early levels of Swamp instead. Maybe Vaults and the main dungeon. It's not like I'm in a hurry or anything.

I killed Ijyb with my GhIE an hour ago, but I still haven't got any points for killing it.

Already hoping to get a rune seems like hoping for some kind of miracle considering how quick my characters are falling, can't even dream of winning the game online.
So i can only be very impressed to see that 13 people have already won, and we're just the second day !

Awesome crawl skills are at work there.

EDIT : on the Bay12 side, some in the Champions team have managed to grab a rune or more, great job guys.

I think I'm reasonably close to a rune myself. I've gotten the swamp rune once before, and I've been steamrolling everything in the branch so far. I just exited a labyrinth, and I'm starting to have some inventory management problems with all this loot I probably won't ever use but can't bring myself to dump either.

I could still use a better weapon, though. Something that works for stabbing but also deals decent damage to enemies that are already awake. Or at least something one-handed so I can wield it without having to remove my buckler. I should take a deeper look in the Elven Halls. Or dig through the orcish falchions left in the mines.

Also, my fruit finds aren't being counted towards the fruit basket badge for some reason. Maybe I need to end the game before it notices them? Or eat them? Although that would be a bit silly, since it excludes carnivores from even trying. :/

Whee, no deaths today. My DDNe is still going strong. I didn't find any poison resistance before Snake: 3, but I got by in the early game (Hive mostly) with liberal use of Mephitic Cloud. Later my dwarf became tough enough to withstand minor levels of poison and I found a book that taught me Cure Poison for the worse cases. It still felt rather foolhardy to enter Snake without poison res, but I just breezed through, until I faced something really bad.

I've got 10 uniques dead now, of which only Rupert put up a good fight by going berserk. Though I admit Josephine's dragon zombies weren't particularly pleasant either.

But then, I met Mara at Snake 3. Maan, that thing is scary. Reading his description and seeing Makhleb's two '1'-demons drop like flies almost immediately after summoning, I decided to leg it with a scroll of blink and a teleport and I feel very lucky I survived. He made a copy of me that chased me all the way to the stairs. I'll be pretty damn careful when I go through to Snake 4.


Now I'm off to sleep, I'll find the Vaults tomorrow and hopefully get a rune too.

P.S. I love how the title of this guy is Reanimator, even though I have never reanimated anything.

I seem to have had most of my combos taken from me seeing as I am down to 47 from 100. Not that I was expecting anything better but what really boils me is that someone took DrWz from me.

Yes, it was only a question of time other people would run after your combo scores, unfortunately our team score then go down with the amount of your combo
Time to fight back then and grab those combo that have been lost.

Got a very gun run with a Troll again, unfortunately died in Lair:3 from a blink frog.
This death was not a stupid one like usually it happens, sure i could have used abilities or even the many wands i had, but honestly i had no reason to do that because so far i had destroyed several of those blink frog in Lair without much problem by just berserking them to death.

I don't know what this one was made with, but it killed my massive health in just a few hits and resisted my berserked blows with incredible ease, that was probably the ultimate champion of the blink frog specie.

I guess it was time the random numbers decided to screw up my very good run by throwing ridiculous number for my hit chances/damages in comparison to that specific blink frog
Too bad, i am sure this was going to be a very good run.

I hoped to find rambutan, the last fruit i have not yet found in Lair, but it was not around.

Great to see Skid finally joined, the Bay12_Miners team is now complete.

If you've found Mara, I would recommend you just abandon Snake for a long time. She can clone herself, and make clones of you. Clones of you are ghosts and follow monster casting guidelines, so they'll probably be stronger then you, and have all your equipment.

Edit: To get an idea of how evil Mara is, she can take down The Royal Jelly. Granted, not often, but still.

Spriggan Enchanter is too easy and feels almost like cheating....until you meet someone who 1/2 shots you to death....Damn berserk Rupert with a battleaxe of distortion

That's the second time now when I have cleared the Lair and could have easily taken the branches on, except for lack of poison resistance....All my characters who die earlier seem to find tons of rPois items. Damn you RNG!!

Grats on your first rune!  Everybody really seems to be doing great imo.  Crawl is a lot of fun with the spike in competitive spirit.

I am getting a pretty nice set of gear together for my HaAM and I think I'm going to go for more runes.  I am going to switch to the Shining One and try to make a weapon I've never used before:  Quick Blade of Holy Wrath.  I think it should be pretty good, I have decent slaying bonuses and, well, it's basically got two brands on one weapon.  I hope it turns out well!
