You know how in Syndicate, you can control your agents' chemical stimulants, and if you pump them up, their abilities adjust and drop back to baseline over time even though the chemicals are still maxed out?  And if you lower them artificially, you can then boost their stats just by bringing the chemicals up to normal?

I keep setting my Caffeine bar too high with coffee at work, and now I don't know how to set it below baseline when I'm at home so I can prep for the next day.  :x

...Oh wait.  I think anti-caffeine is called sleep.

And it's 3:05 AM.    DAMMIT

Is this like a general Syndicate discussion thread?

Because, fuck, I loved that game so hard.

It's essentially a cyberpunk tactical action game-thing. You control four agents (which you can soup up with any number of gadgets and cybernetic components) and attempt to control the world one region at a time. You can shoot your agents up with chems or lower their base chem levels via a set of sliders.

It's interesting, if a bit uncomplicated at times.

"Winning" basically boils down to > Persuadertron some townies > Persuadertron some cops > Persuadertron/Slaughter with townies the enemy agents > Complete objectives.

I never used the chem-settings much, partly because I could never figure out whether they actually had any effect, partly a lingering fear of playing the game as a kid and thinking if I left the sliders too high too long, the Agent's head would explode.

The high chem settings are hilarious for the early missions. Run in, persuade the fuck out of everyone at top speed, then run out, shooting anything that looks at you funny.

Also, pinpoint-accurate miniguns... or a curtain of fire that mows down anyone within a 100 degree arc.

Also, flamers.

Flamers everywhere.

The original. The sequel was horrible.

Keep in mind that you can set your regions' tax policies. Too high, and you'll cause a revolt. Too low, and you'll have to wait longer for you guys to receive money to arm your goons.

That's only in the original and the expansion pack though. The sequel gets rid of regions.

I remember playing a demo of this game a looooong time ago. I played it over and over. :D

Is it abandonware yet? Something tells me I wouldn't enjoy it as much these days, but I'd still give it a whirl if it's free.

I remember this on the SNES. An interesting experiment, but real time squad combat with a d pad instead of a mouse isn't fun. Makes it hard to stop agents before they walk into the street and into a car. May have to give the computer version a try.

Abandonware is illegal, mind you, but yes, it is available on many abandon-ware websites.

Are you sure it's illigal? What if the orignal company/copyright no longer exists/expires?
