There's an MMO I play that my friends also play. I feel like I have no control over how I play this game because of them.

If they are on, I have to be on an online-communications program with them. Most of the time it's silence between us, and it makes me uncomfortable. We can hear what's going on in the background. I don't need to hear their families yelling at each-other anymore than they need to hear mine. It also makes my mom uncomfortable, and I doubt she wants to be heard over the internet. She tries to stay as silent as possible around me when she sees me on the computer.

I have to do whatever they are doing at the time, yet I can't do my own things in-game. I can't do content unless they are with me, yet if they want to do something, they expect me to drop what I'm doing to join them. This extends to them expecting me to come on and stay online at unreasonable times of the day.

Additionally, if there is content that I want to do that they don't like, I'm forbidden from doing it. Like PvP, for example. They absolutely hate it, and therefore I am not allowed to do that type of content.

TL:DR I pay a monthly fee for a game, yet I have little control over how I play.

well, you can set your voice to push to talk. Or you can lower the sensitivity of the microphone. I always do push to talk because I want to be able to talk outside of the game.

Also, as difficult as it might be, I'd just play how you want to play. I realize that's easier said than done, but they'll probably get over it after the initial fuss. I would get pretty mad if I couldn't pvp in a game because my friends hated it. Man, that's the best part of multiplayer games.

Or, you could switch MMOs and not tell them what MMO you are on.

God, I hate news on social media. It functions on "Make people upset enough to click share" so evoking emotions is more important than facts. I guess it's shaping up to be as terrible as the news industry.

Of course, there's even less accountability on the internet. Screenshots of tweets with no timestamps mentioning a news article? On social media, those can last forever! No matter what new articles come out disproving or outdating those tweets, if the people sharing it haven't seen them then your post is as good as new.
