My JROTC instructor did not accept that I had to go to a funeral today as a valid reason for not wearing my uniform that he hasn't re-assigned to me yet and expected me to wear my other uniform instead which is camo BDU

Why in gods good name would be think that I would go to my friends funeral in BDU's!!!!!!

Harvard why does your referencing system have to be so illogical in its use of punctuation. "Location: Publisher", really?

The bus came an hour late. Of course, they don't send a replacement or anything.

I have to wear a uniform at work now. While it's been two damn years that I finally do get one, I'm still a little miffed that I'm being forced to.

Larry Ellison announced today he's stepping down as CEO of Oracle. That part doesn't make me rage. Ellison's a prick.

But in his place, he promoted Mark Hurd (former CEO of HP and sleazeball extraordinaire) to be co-CEO of Oracle. The same douchebag that tried to play hide the salami with a "paid consultant" who happened to be a former softcore porn actress, and tried to use his corporate expense account to shower her with dinner and gifts and hotel rooms. And then got a $75 million golden parachute when he was asked to leave. And then got a $220 million signing bonus from Ellison to come over to Oracle. Now he's going to be running it.

I'm waiting for Wall Street to turn into pillars of salt, and Silicon Valley to be treated to a rain of fire.

Completely drawing a blank on why Oracle was/is important. Know I know the name, but blazes if I can recall why. And the wikipedia article was oddly unhelpful.

I love that one of the news headlines regarding the switch is "Oracle CEO Ellison Steps Aside; Earnings, Revenues Wander Away Too," though.

http://www.smh.com.au/world/sabotage-suspected-as-dozens-of-children-reported-dead-after-measles-vaccination-in-syria-20140917-10hzk4.html

I'm not sure if rage-inspiring news count, but apparently, someone poisened measles vaccine to raise anger against the west in Syria.  About 30 children dead, and many more can be expected if there is an outbreak in the area.

Edit : After thinking about it a little, I'll keep an eye on this case. "The vaccine have been sabotaged" is always easyer to say than "we fucked up is some way". I'll look for an independant confirmation.

Remembre this? Well it appear it WAS a Fuckup. With capital F. They mistook muscle relaxant for vaccine. I'd love to say it doesn't happen in the West but it's actually a pretty serious cause of death here. Don't hesitate checking that medicines that are given to you at the hospital match the prescription (nothing to do inn this case though). Doubl fuckup since it'll sap the confidence in vaccines.

-unrelated-

My idea for a D&D campaign that rips off is inspired by a rather famous JRPG on the SNES that a genuine used copy of will run you eighty-three or so bucks that I won't mention by name is nearly ready, except for one thing.

PLOT.

WRITING.

I had vague concepts floating around, ported in from the original game and thought up by me (e.g. big bad is a huge monster that tries to destroy the world [read: modded tarrasque], intersperse mook-bashing with assloads of characterization, gestalt the players into Sorcerer or something, feature maps for five different time periods, etc. etc.), but the real problem is taking the concept (time travelling to defeat a monstrous big bad) and making a game out of it without outright stealing the actual plot, which comes to mind with all this stuff going on.

Aaaaaugh.

Maybe this is why my other campaigns were written like old pulp fiction sword-and-sorcery books: in a manner where you can just grab any old idea and chuck it at your players, and they'll be cool with it because that's part of the campaign premise. (semi-generic sword-and-sorcery, collecting 'memories', exploring an ocean, dorf fort-styled quest-giving, etc. etc.)

Probably brainstorming session time.

I always wanted a D&D game with an incredibly detailed setting, and stories that would progress around the players as they pursued whatever it is that they decided to pursue. If that makes any sense.

Actually, here's an idea for a premise. No idea how well it would pan out in practice.

Dump your PCs into whatever setting you've come up with. The one pre-req is that they have amnesia; they remember maybe their names and a bit of basic information about who they were, and they start at first level. Treat leveling up, fluff-wise, as them regaining memories and skills, rather than gaining new ones. So for example, when Beefy McMeatshield gains an ability point or feat, IC he's remembering more of his past and what he can do.

Obviously you'd need a roleplay-oriented group for it to not just be a pointless gimmick. But base the plot at least in part around the PCs trying to recover their memories and find a way home, wherever that may be. You could probably turn it into a planewalking sort of campaign once they get some levels.

There was that (large) one where there was a story, but once they got to the demiplane of salt, it... derailed.

Tale of an Industrious Rogue is one of my favorite fantasy stories and my favorite tabletop story. Even Old Man Henderson is inferior simply because it was only the players being awesome, and not even all of them. However, in ToaIR, everyone is brilliant, the GM is not a twat, and none of the players are set-dressing.
