In America, it heavily depends on the specific rural area in my experience.

Generally, yes, though, there's a lot less of the us-vs-them gang mentality, and police are more likely to see themselves as members of the public. That is a huge help.

The counterpoint is that many rural police represent the same abuses and attitudes that are common in that same rural population, magnified, and those who are dicks usually resolve expressing that by limiting it to "outsiders" who are passing through, since they know there will be social (or electoral, since many sheriffs are elected) repercussions for being a dick to their own constituency.

There are a lot of scummy cops out there, but they are probably just as many good honest cops.
Depends which police force you're talking about. Some like the Met Police are great, but there are those like the NYPD which actively seek out good cops and get rid of them.
Generally Rural is better than Metro/City. Willing to overlook small things that don't impact anyone or small mistakes, you're more likely to know them...
In my experience. This is true in Australis, and I've seen a few stories of American rural cops being pretty good people. Don't know about the UK or elsewhere really.
Alternatively, rural cops are more likely to be able to commit crimes without any witnesses around. Urban cops just get caught more often because of the higher witness density.

Elected sheriffs? Is this an internal thing or a community thing? I'm curious about the US legal system in many cases.

Then again everybody is more likely to commit crimes without any witnesses. Still, rural cops are generally nicer. But, where do you live and how does this hold true?

I've also seen in many cases rural police are less malevolent but also completely worthless.  As in they literally don't do anything.

Maybe people should love for the sake of loving, and not with all of these optimization conditions.

Not always, but often, yes. It varies from place to place.

Personal rage of the impotent (not that kind) kind:

I'm very probably never getting back in the cage, ring, or tournament floor. It's something that has been really, really bothering me the last few days. I have all this skill, but my body is so broken and out of shape that I have a hard time walking a mile (two on a good day,) on the treadmill without wanting to collapse from the pain. I'm damn near 100lbs/45kg over my fighting weight, and I'm probably never getting back there. To make matters worse, I've been watching sports. Normally, this is not a problem, but the age when professional athletes start to dramatically decline? 30. I hit that mark in September. On top of all that, I have no place to practice. My hand speed is pathetic compared to my tourney days, my strikes are sloppy feeling, I'm sluggish and weak, and all of my flexibility is gone.

*sigh* I hate to say this, B12, but I think it's time for me to hang up the gloves for good, and there's nothing I can do about it.

I lost my Russian website that sold Mosin-Nagants and their bullets. It included a scope, bayonet, and a dog collar sling.
BUT NOW IT'S GONE FOREVER!

Is this when you begin work on your timeclone, then? Because only science can save you from the fate that you see as inevitable - and it CAN save you. You can rebuild yourself - tougher, faster, strong than before.
