Yes. A switch would perform a check once per instance. A sequence of else if statements (or elifs, depending on the language) would perform a check until it finds a match or runs out of ifs. A sequence of ifs would do every check every time, even if it found a match before.

I can't imagine anything like that being written by anyone but a very new programming student.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

yes, it would slow things down.

It also creates the appearance of a sequence of code that can never execute in the sequence and makes it much harder to understand and maintain.

The guy who wrote this is actually a pay grade above me.

I need a promotion.

Seriously, it sounds exactly like something I would have written when I was learning programming.

There's also no real point to it. If you have say, 9 separate pieces of code you want executed in a row, you don't have to put in a loop. Just put them right after each other.

There's some potential for removing redundancy but that'd be solved easiest with functions.

I think even I knew better than that when I first typed my first lines in BASIC, and I'm an expert at bad judgement.

My brain dyslexically Bowdlerized that into "is actually a gay parade above me".

I need a vacation.

Gay parades would be a very effective means of determining who deserves a promotion.

Also, programming as a thing always made me kind of go "Wat." Being able to make reactive, moving pictures and semi-autonomous constructs out of math and unicorn farts (basically) kind of blows my mind.

I've dabbled in programming, but my brain just kind of derps out when presented with more than a few lines of code.

Last gay parade I went to consisted mostly of a dude in a rainbow shirt shouting at people, including me, about being intolerant assholes.

I was attending with my boyfriend.

I'd like to participate in a gay pride parade one of these days, but dammit, I'm keeping my pants and shirt on.

This makes me somewhat ashamed of my fellow people.

Have you seen the thing about the #muslimhate twitter feed? And how it was swamped with pictures of muslim people doing normal people things? Cuz that'd probably make you feel a bit better.
