Yeah the photo looks fake, but it could very well be a 'reality is unrealistic' since I'm sure most of us have never seen a sinkhole personally, aside from the person living near the 'devil's millhopper'. I think it looks kind of sketchy near the top, since the building seems to have retained it's foundation, making a sharp contrast with the roundness of the hole.

This past 400 days have been rife with natural disasters. Do you think we're just getting better at reporting them, or is this unusual?

Obviously the end times have come. Nero? Fuck that guy. The Book of Revelations is about oil spills and sinkholes, which is clearly evinced with all the human-headed locust imagery. It's so obvious in hindsight.

Not counting the oil spill which is definetly a disaster, but not a natural one. Maybe we're getting better at reporting it?

This hurricane season is suppoused to be a very active one, on par with that of 2005.

Pfft, I'm not into all the doomsday crap. Also, obviously you're being sarcastic.

I guess we're getting sick of hearing about politics/the WOR IN IRAQ, so the media outlets are filling the gaps with natural disaster stories. They happen alot... though it *could* be we've just entered a particularly active phase, disasters-wise. Global warming messing up weather patterns, affecting temperatures, rainfall norms and wind generation?

I can see Americans getting sick of politics, but glowbull warmbing is running it's course too. I'd like to the the 'happy' news channel, where good things happen and Republicans are sensible.

Have you seen the stuff we do to ambassadors in DF? If so, I think you have a death wish.

I'd like to see what's down there

A broken pile of wood and three disfigured corpses.

This past 400 days have been rife with natural disasters. Do you think we're just getting better at reporting them, or is this unusual?

Every time you start to hear about something more often on the news, it's just because the media is reporting it more. I heard one quote where the murder rate went down 18% one year, but media coverage of murders went up 75%. The figures might be off.

Hi!

I think Grakelin is spot on.

After all, if we look at all the man-made catastrophes: bank collapse, BP, Iraq, ... don't you have the impression that humanity got a lot dumber? I mean, if we look at all the idiocy and incompetence we get served daily in the news stories, if our ancestors were that dumb, how did they ever survive after climbing down from the trees?

So, I really hope that media coverage is just messing with our perception.

As for fake/non-fake, remember that circles are a very natural form, so it is not unlikely to get something close to a perfect circle.

I like how that remaining house on the left is sort of leaning over the hole.
