So, for a comedic start is anyone here a fan of boxing? I find UFC to be a bit stupid, it does not last for very long, and I think boxing is more manly since you are only allowed to fight with your hands. Boxing goes for many rounds, and its just a lot more action (unless someone gets knocked out).

Boxing is a manly sport. No, I've never been into watching boxing, but I'm not much on watching sports to begin with.

for me gloves just remove a lot of the skill and made a lot of fights who can hit the other guy in the head harder.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Beating the shit out of a grounded opponent is far more manly than the Queensberry rules, thank you very much.

I fight amateur MMA, most matches start as boxing for a couple of minutes.

Ground fighting is my A game, but I fare well enough on my feet that I don't look like an idiot.

Glove also massively increased the death rate, before gloves you hit you opponent mainly on the chest, after they were introduced and you could as you say pummel the others head there was a much high chance you'd kill them.

Don't forget that boxing gloves don't reduce impact that much - just the chance of cutting someone with your bony parts. There's a reason people like Freddy Roach have Parkinson's Disease now. It's all that headpunching.

So its safer to fight without protective gear than with, assuming combatants understand socking eachother in the head is unacceptable. Interesting. I will be applying this logic to my tobbaco stake fencing sessions.

No, see, the gloves do NOT reduce impact damage - they just mitigate relatively superficial damage to the face. Most punches still hit with the same potentially lethal force that they would if they were barefisted - sometimes more, because the gloves can add weight.

EDIT: Though, can I get in on those tobacco stake fencing sessions of yours? They sound badass.

Edited again because I accidentally the verb.

A friend once said he loves it, and after a while you get used to getting punched in the face. With my Russo-German nose, I'd prefer not to. I'll stick with Judo.

Striking matches in MMA is better than boxing, but I hate MMA because over half are about grounding your opponent, and the commentaries are longer than the matches.

I'm more of a "sit and watch for hours, hoping for action" guy. I don't watch boxing so much, though, because there's no real technique or tactics. Thai boxing is better, IMHO.

I'm pretty sure that hitting the chest is just as fatal as hitting the head. Sure, you've got the brain up there, but down there, you've got the lungs, heart, liver, spleen, stomach, etc. Brain has a thick skull + fluids for protection, you just have a bunch of ribs down in the chest. But the head is a prime target because of KOs. You'd actually get more deaths and less KOs by attacking them in the chest.

I think someone on TV showed that a professional boxer with gloves on did as much damage as one without any, because of the added weight. Those MMA wrap thingies do a little less. But with gloves, hitting the skull is more logical because it doesn't hurt so damn much as when your knuckles slam into someone's skull.
