Adamantine colossus?
« on: May 12, 2010, 02:54:53 am »

Since normal bronze colossuses can be killed with a rabbit why don't we put in other metal colossuses? [just make them rarer than the bronze one] Edit:a fluffy wambler not a rabbit

Don't even think about it, I modded in an Adamantine Colossus once and it was pretty much indestructible the only way to kill it is to cover it in magma and then pour water in, otherwise any weapon just bounces off harmlessly.

Dwarf!  Indeed, a devious delight fond of drink and industry deceived as both do-gooder and devil by the delusions of deities.  This demander, no daft demeanor, is a driving force of the deadly diocese, now disappointed, delirious from goblin deception.  However, this delicious derangement of a demolished diamond stands determined!

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

Yeah, that's the whole point of an Adamantine Colossus.

Did I miss something?  Last I heard people talking about bronze colussi, they were immortal killing machines who have to be melted or crushed by a cave-in.  What do you mean they can be killed with a fluffy wambler?

Some guy in the adventure mode forum one-shotted a bronze colossus with a thrown live fluffy wambler.

That fluffy wambler must feel like a damn hero. It probably has no idea what the he'll happened in all honesty. Maybe it's dead - I wonder if he kept it as a lucky charm.

We already have Iron men which from my experiences are more powerful then bronze colossi and infact leave behind a masterwork statue that is worth twice as much as the bronze colossus. They just aren't as common we also have amethyst men if you check the raws.

If anything the best that we should see are Steel collosus since Bronze isnt naturally occuring yet we see bronze collosi and bronze is made by Humans (Mostly) Having one made of such a rare metal would be ridiculos, infact I'm fairly sure that you could kill everything off inside a

with a adamantine colossus

I'm fairly sure the only difference between Iron men and Bronze colossi are (of course) their composistion and size, try changing the size of a iron man to match a BC and compare them in arena

Slade Colossus.

What? Not all megabeasts should be killable. There should be some things that should terrify even the largest and most powerful fortress.

I don't think it would be phyiscally possible for something made of slade to move, or even be on the surface considering that slade is 9.456 times as dense as platnium it would probably be a avatar to Armok himself if it existed and infact slade is probably so dense that if something were made out of it and tried walking on sand and dirt tiles it would probably fall through them for Armok's sake. Also on another note Mega-beasts should always be possible to beat.

When making those comments about slade, I assume you are referring to how you think it should be, not how it is.  Because people have done dwarves with slade bones, and other creatures (namely, I think someone did magma crabs) with slade skin(/shells).

For megabeasts:  I think for now they should all be killable, but once dwarves are smart enough to understand when something can't actually hurt them even though they can see it, I wouldn't mind megabeasts that you couldn't kill, so you had to deal with them in other ways.  It would also be nice if once things can't get into your fort, they stop calculating paths to get into your fort!  At least until something changes that could change paths.

For an adamantine colossus:  do they do blunt damage, and is it based on their weight?  If so, adamantine colossi might be unkillable, but hit like feather dusters.

Naturally, they would have blade-arms.

Sealed evil in a can!

Even if the adamantine colossus did hit bluntly with adamantine fists, I think it'd still be able to deal pretty serious injury to a dwarf. With war-hammers, having high weight is a necessity because you can't get them moving fast enough to make up for it, but a human can seriously injure or kill another human with fists made out of flesh and bone, so I don't think an adamantine colossus would have any trouble doing the same.

Blunt damage is a matter of momentum, which adamantine just can't get. Hence the blade-arms.

Check the wiki it says slade is that dense. I don't think you realize that slade is infact that dense. Also I do believe that colossi can occasionally get or spawn with a weapon, from my experience in adventure and fortress mode I've seen them carrying *LARGE* Bronze weapons.
