They're not particularly dangerous one on one. Fighting multiple at the same time is a terrible idea though as if one gets a decent shot in then you are stuffed.

There is also the threat of venom.  One sting will cause any standard adventurer to suffer the consequences of slowly decaying neural tissue.

Otherwise, they are pretty fragile.  If you can blocks their blows and get even a few solid hits, you should be able to disable them.  Three at once, however... Could be very dangerous.

So it's completely safe to pit one against your average dwarf.

In the new version, it's not safe to pit the weakest monster against your average dwarf.

The venom cannot be survived forever. I think toughness determines how long you can resist, but it seems to be certain death.

Of course, there's that scorpion in 40d who got an adventurer's axe stuck in him, wrenched it out, and hacked the adventurer to death. That thread's still around here somewhere.

Basically, don't underestimate anything that can [GRASP].

Too bad we can't target a specific part for an attack (aside from wrestling) since if you disable the stinger, they aren't too bad.

Also, I tested them out in the arena against hydras and even a hydra will eventually succumb to the venom. The damage is reduced somewhat, but they'll still bleed out eventually.

At most, you'll have a couple hours before the toxin eventually kills you.
