Vermin to Coke reaction
« on: April 29, 2010, 02:01:48 pm »

Where can I find all of this?  My modding skills are REALLY below par,  so  can't very well write it on my own.

My crematorium mod changes vermin to ash.. but just change the reaction to produce coke instead..

Wouldn't it be faster for everybody involved if you modded vermin to drop a bar of coal on death?

I mean if your making coal from vermin your cheating in the first place, this just takes out the middle man.

Well, I think you can make charcoal from animal remains so it's no relay cheating.

Correct.  From wikipedia:

Quote
Charcoal is usually produced by slow pyrolysis, the heating of wood, sugar, bone char, or other substances in the absence of oxygen (see pyrolysis, char and biochar). The resulting soft, brittle, lightweight, black, porous material resembles coal and is 50% to 95% carbon with the remainder consisting of volatile chemicals and ash.

Basically, you need some carbon-containing material, and you heat it to remove water and break down impurities.

This gets asked a lot, so I've put the reaction on the wiki. Note that the version I put up uses the smelter.

I tried this and it doesn't work:

[REACTION:CREMATE_REMAINS]
[NAME:cremate remains]
[BUILDING:SMELTER:NONE]
[REAGENT:A:1:REMAINS:NONE:NONE:NONE]
[PRODUCT:100:2:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:COAL:COKE][PRODUCT_DIMENSION:150]
[SKILL:SMELT]

I put it in reaction_smelter.txt in both my save game raw folder and the main game raw folder.

you also add to the civ entity... the tag that lets them use the custom reaction, recheck the guides

I found it, thanks.

Just an FYI, "entity_default.txt" is the same number of characters as "recheck the guides". Odd coincidence. :)  The Reaction Examples page doesn't say what files to modify, unfortunately. Neither does the main Reactions page. Or anything else linked by this thread. Or the thread itself.

I found it by searching *.txt for "adamantine_wafers".

Edit: Unfortunately it still doesn't work for me. Oh well.

You will also need to generate a new world because you added a new reaction.  Modifying existing reactions can be done in the save folder raws (just make sure you don't change the [REACTION:<name>] line),  but if you add a new reaction, you need a new world.

This has led me to start including 50 blank reactions and 20 blank buildings ([REACTION:CUSTOM_1], [REACTION:CUSTOMER_2], etc) so that if I see a reaction or building I like, I can add it in without a regen.

I started a new map but I still don't see the option in my smelter, or in the jobs manager list. What did I do wrong?

You missed a spot. You need the reaction detail in a REACTION file, and you need to add the PERMITTED_REACTION tag to the right entity.
