A Tale of Two Fortresses (Community, 2010)
« on: April 21, 2010, 02:48:55 pm »

For a long while I have been thinking of an idea for a new community fortress, but it hadn't been to plausible with 40d.  Now with DF 2010 and the new burrow system it includes, my idea can now be done.

This community fortress features two rival fortress, their land split down the middle by a single river.  Each side tries to out do each other in any way possible whether it be in trade, military, architecture, or wealth.  New ideas, challenges, and additional changes will be added to this community fort as they come to me, but for now it is time to strike the earth!

Before we embark, six starting dwarves, three for each side, needs to be claimed.  To pick a dwarf just post your dwarf's name, side, and initial embark skills and supplies.  Each dwarf will get to pick 190 points worth of skills and items from the embark menu, but be careful what you pick because without the right supplies your fortress will surely not survive the winter.  It would be best to check what the other dwarfs before you have picked when planning your dwarf in order to ensure a even distribution of skills and items for your side.  Below is a list of prices of some basic items but you are free to pick anything not included in the list.

Do you wish to name your dwarf?

Also, I don't think added up the cost of the skills correctly as you were slightly over the limit in embark points, I changed your skills to be 1 farmer/ 1 brewer, you have 10 points left and it will take 6 more points to level up farmer or brewer.

Oops sorry. I edited my original post to what I think is more accurate.

Thought it was five to take a level in a new skill then one to increase the level.

You still are a little off, I updated the price list so you can get a better idea of how much your skills cost.  Right now it cost you 35 for 5 farmer, 35 for 5 brewer which gives you a total of 70 just for skills alone.

Which is what I was intending. I think it was the drink and meat that was throwing it off actually.

You can't, the embark screen limits you to 5 in a skill.

Would be cool if there was some kind of ideological divide between the fortresses. Like Commie/Nazi, Tree-Hugger/Elf-hater, or anything.

Also, I request a miner or engraver in the Red Fortress please. Name it Urist McSheb
