the funny idea of men staying at home and all that.
to quote yourself, *rolls eyes*
Well, men didn't stay at home during the Napoleonic Era. they were out doing stuff, killing each other and discovering scientific hoo-ha.

Okay, lets not turn this into a gender war. We're here to discuss a game, not women vs men or anything.

Of course this is all according to history books written by men. ;)

Most often Clergymen at that.  And if there was ever a misogynistic profession at the time it was that of a catholic priest.

To refer to a point dropped ages ago, I think Albion having a city named London makes it pretty clear what's going on with the nations' names.

What do you think that is?  I mean, to me it makes it less clear.  Were they really so uncreative that they couldn't be bothered to name the capital city of their England like fictional kingdom something else?  Or if they really didn't care then why bother naming it Albion in the first place?

It's not exactly subtle that they're doing that so they have free license to, while retaining whatever associations we have with real world places from a real world time (i.e. the British government's love of the lash) while having free license to toy with, add, or remove historical figures and events as necessary for narrative cohesiveness.

A little effort, please.

actually that offers some insight into the "point of divergence" (as it is called by AHisotry fans). the words "Albion", "Gaul" and "London" (actually "Londonium") are were all around in the Roman times, while the word "France" (and other words of the same root) was not. Curiously enough the word "Briton" ("Britannus") was around (and "Britania" was the official name of the land). So... perhaps in this world ALbion was never conquered by the Romans?

Or you know, they could just not call it Albion and do the exact same thing.  It's not like whether or not they call it England or not has any affect on how historically accurate they have to be.  Look at it this way.  Say someone got a map of Europe and pasted the word Albion over England.  That's all they really did here.  I mean, besides sticking the word "Gaul" on France.  If they were going to bother changing two of the real world place names, it was just lazy to not change the third.  I mean, at least call it Londinium.

I think you're putting a little too little thought into some parts of that theory and way too much into others.  If it was never conquered by the Romans it wouldn't have ended up exactly like the real world Napoleonic era or whatever minus some names.  Rome was just far too significant for things to have been completely unaffected by it's absence.  Secondly, the much simpler explanation is that they wanted to make things sound fictional without actually changing anything from history besides whatever they simply neglected to include, and they were not feeling creative, so they took England and France and renamed them Albion and Gaul.

That and there would be no London[ium].

...

Albion is Great Britian.

Quote from: Wikipedia
Albion (Greek: Ἀλβιών) is the oldest known name of the island of Great Britain. It is thought to derive from the white cliffs of Dover. Today, it is still sometimes used poetically to refer to the island or England in particular.

I believe the bolded was due to a tribe called the Bretons, but I may be wrong.
