Khezu was my favourite wyvern from 1. I think he's adorable in a terrifying way. Had to kill him about 20 times to help my friend make the Khezu gunner set.

Anyway, I'm sitting here looking at the box for MH3 and I'm just now remembering that I have this absolute paralyzing fear of being in large bodies of water in video games because of the mere idea that a giant monster could be lurking in it. Even in games with no giant monsters.

Haha.

Well, the thing, in MH3 you have a 100% guarantee that there's a large monster in every body of water you'll enter. Exactly one.

Which you're usually there to kill.

It's not funny.  There's no triumph in killing a boss I had no fun fighting, only slightly diminished frustration.

EDIT:  This is the most unsatisfying boss fight I've ever seen.  I spend more time watching it fly around majestically than I do fighting it, and unlike similar monsters, I can't pop it back into the fight with sonic bombs.

Protip!

You can knock it out of the air with flash bombs.

Likewise, most of the underground/water baddies can be fished out with flashbombs too.

Also its moves seem to be partially dependent on your distance - so, keep your distance and hopefully it'll stick around on the ground for a bit.

It's down.  Why is the lair full of raptors?  When it's the bottom of the ninth and the bases are loaded, you don't send raptors onto the field, that's not fair.

EDIT:  Anyway, I'm done.  Tired of spending a half hour fighting a boss only to get killed by docile herbivores that force me against a wall where I can't dodge.

Rathalos is a bastard. :/
I took him down with a Deathprize (stun element SnS) which I'm sure is worse than whatever you're using. Even with better stuff I sometimes timed out on him just because he'd fly around in circles and taunt me for half an hour and I could only actually fight him for 15 minutes.

The raptors you can clear out ahead of time, if you're talking about the cave he goes to when he's almost dead. They stop respawning if you clear the room and leave and return and repeat 3-4 times.  It's up to you if the time wasted doing that is worth the reduced aggrevation at the end of the mission.

Yeah, I got the Rathalos.  A Rathian is what made me quit.  I'll probably end up going back tomorrow, but I'm making it clear I'm mad at it right now.  It's sleeping on the couch tonight.

well it is early to say, but the bowgun is kind of hard to use with the classic controler that came with the game, not nearly as smooth as the xbox 360 nor the ps3. I hope I can grow into it. If not, I like the SnS, but looks like it is a light damage weapon and I may run into problems with the kill timer given that I am a newb.

Those videos speak to my soul.

I came back, it politely informed me that I would not be staying.  Docile herbivores and lesser carnivores should go to ground and hide when something as large and aggressive as a wyvern is fighting.  If not for realism, for gameplay.  The only thing worse than losing a hard-fought wyvern hunt is losing a hard-fought wyvern hunt to an Apceros.

Also:  Come on, Capcom.  Even Mike Tyson had a tell.  Rathalos/Rathian charge whenever they want with no indicator beforehand.  It turns going into melee into a huge bowl of wine in front of me, because you never know when they're going to charge.  If you protect yourself from one they won't, if you don't they will.

EDIT:  Third time in a row I've lost to something that wasn't a wyvern during a wyvern hunt.  It's a shame this game is so fun, because it's terrible.  Seriously.  This is one of the worst, most poorly-designed games I've ever played, and I can't put it down.

How terrible are the underwater controls with the classic controller? The wiimote+nunchuck are pretty terrible at it. Aside from that the only annoyance i've found is you need to have the wiimote angled the right way to do certain attacks.

Most reviews I've read have said the Wiimote & Nunchuk control scheme is shit.
Also oh god, so many variants of weapons.
I hate all of you who got it early, I'm about to pre-order it.
