Earthquake Machine?
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:40:27 pm »

Now, I know how to use cave-ins for fun and profit.  Many an elf trader invader has fallen (hah!) victim to my pit traps.  Now I have a... theoretical question.  What if, theoretically, channel out my map from the indestructible border walls?  What if I then, theoretically, dig out the entire bottom layer of my map and construct some supports in the center?  (I play 40d until bugs go away).  What if I then hook up these supports to a lever in my computer room?  What if I then pull the lever?  What will happen?  Theoretically, of course.

It will go down in history as the vanishing fortress.
Your FPS will go to -1.
It can fight of a siege really well.

Being serious, as far as I can figure, it basically blows up everything. Much like a cave in breaks everything above it, you'll break everything above the bottom... which is everything.

And then it's pretty much a normal fortress from then on.
I find the idea of a normal fortress amusing.

I have a very good idea of what the results will look like due a glitchy embark...

Caution - since I was testing this 2x2 embark (took 25 minutes to resolve on my PC) for the Bug Tracker, this contains SPOILERS.

Note that this doesn't include any secondary caveins, of which there were many.
