Like the others, I gingerly approach the obelisk, ready to leap back at a moments notice.

Investigate the tents for something that might have survived the blast
[6] You pick yourself up and start walking towards the obelisk. Batista tries to convince you to stay away, so you punch him. You then dive into the still-hot ashes, digging through them with your bare hands.
You burn your hands.
Immediately you find something; a stone chest buried in the ashes. It is clearly far too heavy to belong in a lightweight tent.
You open it. Within is a scrap of coarse, yellowish paper. 'GO AWAY' it reads.
Apart from the chest the tents are curiously empty. You find only the ashes of the burnt tents and-
hang on.
You espy a flash of white in the grey of the ashes. A piece of parchment, half buried in the sand, only now exposed due to your poking around. You pick it up. Much of the paper has been burnt, and only a small part of the neat handwriting remains readable.

If I manage to convince him not to loot the tents, sneak behind him while he isn't looking and loot them myself, if not, just race him to the loot
[2] You try to talk Jetsquirrel out of looting the tents. He punches you. Your nose is bleeding.

Investigate obelisk
Attempt to examine the obelisk, from a safe distance.
Like the others, I gingerly approach the obelisk, ready to leap back at a moments notice.
[3][4][3] You work together in investigating the obelisk.
The obelisk is about fifteen meters tall. It is made of the local stone painted blue. It is covered in carvings.
Quote from: Obelisk
Top to bottom:
Scenes of battle. Army A is killing people (unarmed).
A palace. Guy A is having some people put to death. Guy B looks on in anger.
Scenes of battle. Armies A and B are marching to war.
Scenes of battle. Army A is fighting with Army B.
Scenes of battle. Army A is running away.
'This monument was erected in 465. It depicts the war between the evil king of Axtein and the empire.'
'Which ended with the battle of Gatla (452) in which the spearmen of Axtein were crushed under the wheels of our chariots'
'"Know, traveller, that I am the greatest of men. My rule eternal"- The Immortal Emperor

Base:
North: Gatla, 3 hours walking distance.
South: Thyn, 8 hours walking distance. Axtein, 2 days walking distance.
East: Danger! Bandits!
West: Danger! Bandits!

Take care of my wounds.
[6] Your hands have been burnt! You should pour cold water over them.
Alternatively, you could put them in cold water...
You run towards the river. You find a pond amongst the reeds and jump in.
You have become muddy, but at least your hands feel better.

"What the fuck was that for? <LIE> I was only concerned about you. I'm keeping my distance from now on, and if you pull of something similar I WILL kick your ass."

Try to stop the bleeding with whatever resources are available, if more than half of them start walking towards Gatla (which they should) I will follow.

Double check to see if my waterskin is full, and if not get some water from the river.

Try to stop the bleeding with whatever resources are available, if more than half of them start walking towards Gatla (which they should) I will follow.
[2+1=3] You cut two pieces of cloth from the roll in your bag and stick them in your nose. Inelegant, but better than dripping. (And my personally preferred method for dealing with nosebleeds).
Jetsquirrel then makes you do a bunch of silly stretches and meditation. Oh how you hate that backstabbing traitor.
Oh wait.
That's you.

Try to help the rest and somehow remove the "Battered effect"
[6] You jog around a bit, do some stretches, then meditate for five minutes in order to remove that beaten-up feeling you got from rolling down a rocky hillside.
You then insist upon everyone else joining you in a repeat of your exercise. This proves an annoying waste of time, not helping anyone whatsoever. Indeed, it has positively annoyed all of them, decreasing their chances of being productive in the near future.

Collect some rope reeds and weave them into cloth.
[4] You gather some regular reeds with your knife and attempt weave them into a mat. [3] The reeds are not very flexible, but at least the don't snap. You make a Crappy Reed Mat.
Then Jetsquirrel pulls you from your pond (you did not leave in the mat-making process) and makes you do jumping jacks.
This is disturbing.

Double check to see if my waterskin is full, and if not get some water from the river.
[6] You check to see if your waterskin is full.
It is!
You drink some water.
IT IS STILL FULL
In the spirit of experimentation, you upend it. After ten minutes you conclude that, yeah, its almost certainly magic.
Jetsquirrel pulls you away from further experimentation and makes you do 'breathing exercises' and 'Invigorating stretches' to make the pain 'disappear'
You suspect Jetsquirrel was a TV Shopping host before.

Head North to Gatla, mapping out the region as I go.
[1] You start walking north, taking note of landmarks and counting your steps. Preoccupied, you fail to notice that you are failing to walk parallel with the river until with a wet squelch your sandals sink into the thick mud of the shallows. You promptly fall forwards, sending your beloved map flying.
Jetsquirrel finds you wiping mud off a disintegrating parchment and pulls you back to the obelisk to do exercises.
They only serve to worsen your mood.

Head North to Gatla, watching for bandits.
[4] You head north, keeping a watchful eye out for dangers of all kinds.
You manage to escape Jetsquirrel.
Travel: [4] The road to Gatla is notable in its absence; you suspect that river-based transport is the norm between there and Thyn. Which raises the question: If the merchants travel by boat, why are there bandits?
Despite the rough terrain, you manage to cover some distance. Hypothetical concerns regarding your colleagues is shushed by your need to travel to Gatla.
