Does secretion actually work?

I was trying to make a creature using the secretion function but it didn't seem to do anything in the object testing arena. I even tried putting the standard cave blob creature into the arena without changing it one bit and it still didn't seem to be doing anything. Does secretion actually do anything? Any help is appreciated.

It's a little bit tricky and it requires a good working knowledge of the material/tissue system, but it's perfectly possible.  This thread - http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=53075.0 - just got resolved, and was about secretion issues.
