I have discovered alchemy!
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:30:24 am »

Turning Iron into Gold Goblets seems to relatively well known, but I just had an even stranger occurrence... I had a Brewer who got a Secretive Mood, and grabbed a6 Giant Toad Bones. When he finished, I had "Airtempted the Mysterious Fright", an Iron Figurine of Dwarves. He turned bones into iron, and became a Legendary Bonecrafter...

Now I need to go make vast quantities of Masterwork bone iron armor for my military.

I actually wouldn't mind if this wasn't a glitch.

There seems to be some sort of wide-reaching bug involving iron.  Goblets are turning into iron while being made.  A lot of dwarves are making iron artifacts without picking up any iron at all.  In fact, every time I've heard someone mention an artifact in the new version yet, it seems to be made of iron no matter what dwarf is making it and what materials they picked up.  Instead, the materials they pick up just get used in decorating the artifact.

Obviously they are making it out of their IRON WILL!!!

It could be worse, they could be making it out of their hearts of gold.

I have had an iron statue, an iron buckler, and a raw adamantine necklace decorated with, you guessed it, iron. I hadnt heard of this bug so I didnt check whether they actually picked up iron however...

This bed was only built from 2x bituminous coal and 1x iron, other materials were not used. Here it seems that all of the materials are used as they are, and no alchemistical transmutation has occured. So if there is a bug it is not always :-(
We have to find out how exactly it occurs, I want to exploit :-)

Most dwarven bed ever. Both highly flammable, and likely to impale.

That wasn't the case for me.  I got a steel ring, then a steel bracelet when I reloaded the game after the crash.  The former was unadorned, the latter had steel decorations.

What about their nerves of steel, or - um - toenails of bismuth bronze?
