Id Paintchucket, High Master Cheesemaker
« on: April 04, 2010, 09:55:39 am »

So, my first fortress of DF2010. I embark, decide to make an above ground "base camp" before I drill deep into the mountain below. Off I go, chopping down trees and mining rock to build buildings for my dwarves to sleep and eat in.

 Summer is here.
 Some migrants have arrived.

I blink at the screen. Migrants in my first year? This is unprecidented. And on top of that, one of them is a High Master Gem Setter. I dig out some gems and get him working on cutting and embedding them into crowns and whatnot to rip off trade with the caravans.

 Autumn is here.
 Some migrants have arrived.

I blink again. My fortress now has about 20 guys. Scanning through them, I find a really neat metalsmith (proficient in a boatload of combat skills!) and then, to cap it all off..

 Novice Clothier
 Novice Miller
 High Master Cheese Maker

In a fort less than a year old.
 With no cows.

I have to admit though, I'm liking that migrants are loads better than they used to be. Like my new best friend, the aforementioned Mr Proficient In Death, who also is an accomplished metalsmith.

The question I now have is do I turn him into a warrior or a metalsmith?

You can recruit him into the military and schedule his squad so that he'll work as a metalsmith for part of the year and train for another part of the year, and use alert levels whenever you need him to fight. That's why the new military system is awesome.

What does the cheesemaker look like, is he really fat?  If professions affect the appearance of migrants etc, that would be sweet. :)
