Post Your DF2010 Questions Here

I think it'd be a nice to have a consolidated topic for DF2010 questions as, despite Toady's AMAZING manual on what the various tags do, there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered.

My first one: Where the hell are all the dinosaurs in the RAWs?

Third question: Manual? Where?!

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

There are no actual dinosaurs. However, certain randomly generated... things... can have dinosaur types as a base. They can have a lot of creature types that aren't actually normal creatures yet, apparently.

seconded.
Thirded, that would help a lot.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Oh, that thing. Yeah, it's somewhat helpful, but only for the tags that appear in the dwarf creature raws (and it's been around for much longer than 31_01 itself).

Pretty much this. There are still quite a lot of unexplained tags, though.

The dinosaur thing is unfortunate. I was hoping to make them less Latin-based / scientific sounding

Not entirely on topic, but every time I look in the raws, with passing versions, I start feeling more and more like it will soon be as complicated as defining a real-life creature. I'm almost certain that in a few more versions we'll see [SUSCEPTIBLE_TO_HEAVY_METAL_TOXINS] or [SWEATS_WHEN_HEATED] or something. It's getting ridiculously complicated.

Don't worry. In a few versions, Dwarf Fortress will merge with our reality due to Toady's supreme coding, and all modders will ascend to become demigods. It shouldn't be TOO difficult after that.

I've also found a 'manual' in:

b_detail_plan_default
body_default
item_weapon
material_template_default
plant_standard
reaction_other
tissue_template_default

New question regarding the arena. I'm using graphics right now, which I understand (temporarily I hope) keeps the arena from working right. But I assume it's possible to edit the ascii map (arena.txt) in the init folder. From what I see W=water, L=lava #=stairs? R=ramps P=floor?. So can we make a map with creatures that will automatically start the arena having those creatures in it? Are other things available to add? Am I totally wrong?

(ninja'd while typing, duty-bound meaning he can't have other jobs? Flashes meaning.... you know what never mind :-[)

I, for one, am interested in all of the mysterious tags below:

DUTY_BOUND stops the civver from being recruited in Adventurer mode (and possibly some other things besides), whereas FLASHES... I presume it just makes them flash as legendary creatures do/generic leaders did in 28.

Sounds reasonable.

[SLEEP_PRETENSION]

What about those?
