There is a certain size at which creatures are immune to bridges.
That's all that's known at the moment? Like, there's no information on whether or not the bridge size or the quality of the mechanisms matters?

I know I could test it myself, but it would take ages to do it thoroughly and I'm spending my DF time on something else.
it's fixed so far at a certain value. a "quick fix" so to say from making atomsmashing the be-all, end-all way of doing things.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Something like a year, yeah.

It's longer for fox pups, I've noticed. Not 2 years, but longer than dog pups.

No word on wolf pups yet.

Anyway, can someone tell me what kind of stockpile dwarven sugar is stored in?

Bridge size and quality do not matter, only creature size.  The only question is exactly what that size limit is.  Someone needs to systematically crush animals with bridges and determine exactly which ones can and can't be atomsmashed.

Cool, guess I'll be making any bridge traps have a larger number of smaller bridges.

Creature body size can be changed after embark, yes? If that's the case then you could take an average sized-dwarf, station them on a bridge, and see how big (or how heavy, but for a quick fix I'd expect the game to look at just the one variable) they need to be before they jam the mechanisms.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Whenever I embark to a volcano site, I can never actually find the volcano. I get a huge mountain, but no lava. Is it located inside the mountain, or am I doing something wrong?

ASCII: look for the sign that looks like a cage trap. (a.k.a. ^)
Graphics: look for the sign that looks like a cage trap.

Make sure this is within your embark rectangle (the area you select)

I always place the fortress's in the biome that has the symbol in it (using f1, f2, etc).

Edit: Just figured out how to use the embark rectangle.

I have an underground refuse stockpile (ran out of space on my walled-in-accesible-only-from-the-fortress-entrance-past-rows-of-weapon-traps ones...bloody skeletons). It's only 1 z-level below the surface - if I channel out a space above it and put in a grate there, will the miasma dissipate onto the surface?

Actually, there will be no more miasma at all.
It'll just rot without miasma.

Aww. No spoiling the pristine natural landscape with icky purple clouds?

Oh well. I'm pissing off the elves enough as it is - chopping down tons of trees to make wooden walls in my caverns (why waste the stone?), dropping their traders into the caverns (yeah, execution pit under the retracting bridge...didn't expect to hit the caverns that soon. Got a lot of fun out of it!), mass-hunting the graceful majestic deer and foxes of the area (this is a finely prepared deer kidney roast), and grievieously upsetting the local ecosystem with a combination of all of those.

Right, so I did that - turns out you were wrong, TolyK! Miasma is spreading through the grate!

I do not just strike the earth...I hold it down and fuck it where it hurts.

it generates miasma inside. below a grate is considered "inside". however in open air it will not.
