Don't forget to go and un-dump the cages either manually or from the stocks menu, or they'll dump them too.

However, when my dwarves go to put the crafts in the stockpiles, they don't take a bin out of the furniture pile so that the crafts can be stored - they just put them one by one on the pile, costing precious space.  How do I get them to use the bins?
If they won't use bins, and you have spare bins, make sure the stockpile is set to accept bins (c and v decrease/increase the number of bins allowed in a given pile; change when highlighting with q)

I had just completed my magma workshops, deconstructed my regular forges and smelters, and moved all the stone and bars to the new site. A metalsmith goes moody. So I rebuild a regular forge. No dice, he sat around until he went crazy. Worried me, because he was a fully equipped militia dwarf, hanging around in my meeting hall with no real way to lock him anyplace. When it looked like things wouldn't work out, I stationed the rest of the squad there, but he just went melancholy.

I couldn't get the magma stuff powered up in time. Is that it? I mean, I have every other workshop, he had no other moodable skills anyhow, nothing forbidden, and I rebuilt the regular forge right after he went moody. It had fuel and everything a moody dwarf could need. So, will a moody dwarf fixate on a magma forge, forgoing other forges until the one he wants is powered up?

Yeah, once you have the ability to make magma forges, they can decide that they "need" a magma one and not a normal one.  Kinda sucks, but plan ahead next time I guess.

31.16:  My dwarves won't put turtle shells into the refuse stockpile.  I tried it with the pile accepting only crafting stuff (bones, shells, skull, etc) and accepting everything.  I tried deconstructing the fishery they were sitting in too.

EDIT:  Oh, wait.  I forgot to have them gather refuse from outside.  Durrrrrrrr.

[b)uild the cages, then [d]->[b)->[d]ump over them.
You're dwarves will strip them and dump their stuff.

This isn't working. When I got bored and killed however, the goblin's items were marked for dumping.

Also, will my team of a legendary axedwarf,a legendary hammerdwarf and a legendary sworddwarff be able to kill a minotaur?

Is there any way to make a creature available to ONLY one race?

I found that the goblins items had to be claimed as well, they're forbidden by default.

designate for dumping, designate claim, then the dwarfs will take the goblins items, and dump them.

Can you create meat from a creature that doesn't exist(Like a centaur) and not have it crash?

You need to unforbid the goblin's stuff, THEN dump it.

One of my skill-less immigrants got his hand cut off by a kobold thief and didn't die.  What is he good for, other than hauling?  I usually send my otherwise useless immigrants into the military, but that obviously won't be an option for him.

What's a good way to kill all the pet cats? I'm being overrun here.

Actually, single-handed dwarves can be in the military just fine, just make sure you get his weapon/dodge skill up to balance out the lack of a shield.

A long hallway of spike traps, with the lever activating them at the end behind a pet-impassable door.
Restrict the lever to only the dwarves that have cats, and order it pulled on repeat.

What is the knife user skill?
One of my military dwarves in legendairy'+5 in it.
But he's using an Ax not a Large Knife.
Should I try and obtain a large knife for him?
How did he get trained in it ? He is in a sqad with a guy who is high master at it, and who is uising a large iron knifebut he has no ranks in student...

Hi there, I have 2 little questions. Answers or pointers in the right direction are welcome:

1. Clothing my dwarves have "lost" is lying around in my fortress. Via order I set to reclaim all the stuff, but it does not count for stuff before I set the order. So, how do I get my dwarves to pick up clothing from dead dwarves? They dont touch it, nor dump it.
2. I want a refuse stockpile to only take (every) skin, but the new DF2010 stockpile settings kinda complicate things. How do I achieve a skin-only stockpile? Nevermind, apparently "skin" is called "raw hides". Well, english is not my mother tongue ...

Thanks in advance!
