I have a few caged foxes and a caged wolf.
I can't tame either of them, how do I go about butchering them? I can only butcher them if there dead, so what do I do? Release and slaughter or what?
I wanted tame wolves as a guard damnitt :L

Find a way to kill them, build an upright spear with a steel/adamantine spear and skewer it.

Or link the cages to levers, surround the cages with fortifications, station your marksdwarves nearby and give them some live fire exercise.

What's the difference between floor grates ang floor bars?
Which ones should I use for protecting channeled tiles close to pumps?

I know floor hatches are like doors, so I won't use them.

Floor grates and bars have no functional difference.

However, bars can only be made of metal (and other materials that come in bars). Grates can be made of stone etc

Are there ant tips on any ways to help manage excess stone? It's clogging up my fortress. Also does mud stay around forever? I want to know if I'll have to ever re-flood my farm.

It might help if you tip the balance, and use burrows to force your desired pedophilia couple together.

Holy shit, did I just say that?

Yes mud is permenent until you build a construction over it, such as a wall or floor.

Try quatum piling stone
i, designate 1x2 area, press d on every stone you want.
Its treated as a garbage dump but it stacks stone on top of each other.
Of course if you have an actual dump already designated outside you should delete that otherwise this wont work :)

Thats totally what I meant :L
I has a question.
How big does a danger room need to be? I've never built one before and getting low quality spears is taking a while is 3x3 big enough?

As long as your dwarves can fit inside the room, that's fine.
