I am a fairly new player to dwarf fortress, and have died several times in the adventures.  My current adventurer has no weapon skills whatsoever, but skill level 11 in armor/shield/dogging and has just killed 2 vampires as the first two kills, the second one I revealed by complete accident when reporting the success of killing the first one.  Did I mention that they were in the same town?

EDIT: died to a goblin lasher...  I hate them.  also I want to find a necromancer tower somewhere in this large realm

I took two of the finest Dwarves in town, and set off for the nearest city to find the lost city of Eshomaud. Turns out, it was a goblin city, and the people there were extremely rude.
Went onto Dwarf diplomacy, ransacking jewelry stores and killing anyone I found, until I finally reached the keep. By then, my two fellows were slain, but I avenged them all. Unfortunately, I also received a mortal wound via bruising of the lungs, but still I fought on.
I cleared the entire fortress.
I moved down into the lower keeps, determined to keep fighting.
One warlord and several goblins away, I encountered a worthy foe. A goblin lasher warlord. He broke my leg, and severed one of my fingers - and was very close to killing me when I placed him in a choke hold and slit his throat. It was around this point I decided I would leave.
And so, with broken leg and missing finger, I hauled myself out of the goblin town, killing all who stood in my path, amassing over 93 goblin kills, before returning to the town, where I recruited many more Dwarves.
I made my pilgrimage from the killer steppes of Euphoria, to a famed Dwarven city, with walls made out of solid gold, and the rumours were true. There, I regain strength, building a small army up to trek across the tundra wastes.

Sorry to follow up such a ☼Dorfy☼ tale with a lame question, but how did you get Dwarf NPCs in Adventure mode? (I'm fairly new to 34.xx; just started on 34.07 after last playing 31.25 last year)

I think it requires modding Dwarves so that they build towns, like humans.

As a necromancer vampire, I gathered 300 of the finest corpses and severed limbs that I could find on a mission to explore the uncharted. My army was promptly attacked by an even greater force of kobolds, I guess ambush numbers scale with your companion amount    After the dust cleared, only 25 of my companions were left and I had literally slept on a pile of corpses to recover from the NUMEROUS arrow wounds.

Only 300 corpses?  I had around 700 corpses once, lost most of them to a waterfall and died shortly thereafter.

Took an arrow to the arm, dropped my Silver Great Axe, killed the offending crossbowman and healed.

I have four companions now. An Elf Crossbowman, a Human Crossbowman, a Human Bowman.


The town I recruited them from has Elf Slaves everywhere.

He's using iron materials and is living with humans, so he's alright in my books. Think of him as Jerry's long lost cousin.

you only listed three? who's the 4th? is he another archer? or a meat shield?

okay so testing out Masterworks adventure mode and currently almost all spells seem to do dilly to the opponent and necromancy is suicidal.
Currently I was just living through Adventure mode as a hammer by picking up kills and transferring to the new body that kill last owner. so far it was working smoothly until I happen to jump into a head.
this was after sparking a necro to reanimate most of his peers and causing a infighting which lead to his death, and walking back in said room as a fresh bandit(previous bandit died in the room and I had to walk a zombie over to the bandit hide out a couple rooms away to recarn to a better body). so as a head I saw a bandit pikeman rushing towards me. so I attack it thinking I could just get killed and jump into a different body. boy I was wrong.


some how the zombify head jump up 5-6 feet landed on the head and rip it off clean from from the guy shoulders and is now stuck in its teeth.
