Made a new adventurer and got a quest to kill bandits. I isolated one peon and while attempting to put a chokehold on him he repeatedly stabbed me in the chest. I think I'll stick to strangling small forest animals during the beginning from now on.

I was tired to die every time to puny outlaws, so I started a new demigod character specialized in axe fighting.
After a few weeks of killing night creatures or outlaws on his own and grabing decent armor pieces, he was acclaimed in every hamlet as the greatest hero of the empire. The emperor himself demanded him, and he had to cross the entire continent, slicing ennemies of the people and getting attacked by boogie men. The lord asked him to kill a dragon, and he started to gather brave men from all over the country to slay the mighty beast. But while visiting a fortress to recruit soldiers, he opened the gates to discover 5 horses waiting for him, and they almost trampled him to death, leaving him heavily crippled, with almost every bone of his body crushed, his spines destroyed, and with one hand teared appart.

He tried to buy a crutch, but his wounds were too deep to be able to walk anyway, and he went mad with anger and bitterness from this anti-climatic ending, so he murdered the shopkeeper with a copper carving fork, packed the body in his backpack, and crawled his way to the imperial palace. The guard tried to stop him, but he butchered them all with his alder crutch, strangled the emperor with his only hand, and crushed his head with his own severed hand.

After that, he stayed for ever alone in the empty throne room of the castle, playing with the bodies he collected on his way...

Horses in a fort trampled you to death. Talk about bad luck. o.O

I made a dwarf demigod, I saw a labyrinth so I decided to go explore it. I found a minotaur that punched me in the head and one shotted me. Probably my fastest adventure ever

I spawned in a human village as an Elven bowman.

Tried to get a quest from one of their peasants and retired that one.

Created a second one (same race) and hunted down the location of my first adventurer.

I was attacked on sight by my retiree, I retaliated and then the whole village goes after my skin.

Shocking way to die.

I once made an adventurer in Genesis Mod named Karki Boneruns the Gilded Glow. He was a wyvern, because I was feeling lazy and wanted to see what I could do as one of the deadly creatures of Genesis. Karki was an odd fellow; he liked biting
people in obscure places and waiting until they melted to death. One day, after having a wonderful time killing a village of centaurs, he decided to go clear out a bandit camp. He went there, only to find one of my previous adventurers already there, killing the crap out of everyone there. I decided to help him, and the first thing he does after killing everyone there is shield-bash me in the head, killing me. I later looked in Karki's Legends file and found out his corpse was mounted on a pike. Never going there again.

EDIT: First post. I've lurked for a while and I think I've finally found a community crazier than me! I'll have to work on my skills!

The NPC's know more about my forts than I do. I feel like a big illiterate slacker who doesn't know any history.

Recruit: Uh, ... it sure ... was.

I have no clue what this legendary valuable artifact even is. I know there's a cool sword up there but that was definitely made by a Uvash.

I ground my shield user / dodger up to legendary before looking for armor, like I do with all my dwarf adventurers and a night creature, of which I've killed zillions, murdered my brain with a carving fork in one hit.

So I am getting back into Adventure mode ready for the next release.

I have been playing one world since the last release and had a number of fortress rise and fall.  One adventurer stumbled on an abandoned fortress.  Nothing like wandering around an old creation, having completely forgotten how you laid it out.  My companions fought off two Hungrey Heads, which were a surprise find, and I was pleased to see a Magma Man.  Until I dodged off the top of a spiral ramp that runs through the fortress and fell into the Magma Sea.

My current adventurer, with a little help from Legends Viewer and endlessly talking to local residents, has just journeyed to a Labyrinth, one of the features of the last release I hadnt seen yet.  Legends Viewer reports it is the home of a Minotaur, but there was no taunting and no Minotaur.  Still, at least we got out alive.  Seeing the map from above makes it a lot easier, imagine if the map did not remain on screen when you couldnt see it anymore.  Then the mazes would be truely terrifying.  As it is the purple @ that your companions leave when they go out of sight confuse it enough, blocking routes and masking stairs.  Unfortunately the human civ only sells boots, gauntlets, caps and greaves, and no other armour.  I remember now why starting as a dwarf is so useful, visiting old fortresses can supply you with a full set of quality armour and weapons.  Perhaps next time.

This world also seems full of abandoned castles.  Been to a fair few, never seen an inhabitant.  Cant get armour from the guards that way either.  The wiki suggests this is due to the civ having a demon leader.  Not sure about demon, but all the leadership figures seem to get attacked by night creatures in this world.  Perhaps I will have to travel to the other civ, see if they are any better.

All in all, really enjoying it.  Almost a shame to abandon when the new version comes out, as it would be good to see how many of my exploits end up recorded in the next fortress.  Almost.

Needs some way of equiping companions though, even if they just scavenged from fallen foes.  They all seem unarmoured, but lethal with silver boning knives.

In a prior fortress I sealed a stockpile of adamantine shortswords behind a floodgate. I took the most direct route to the cool sword vault and every single one was gone. At least I got to fight a skeleton deer up by the aqueduct.

I glitched into a peasant's body who had a speed over 1400. I think that lets them get a lot of attacks in, and since they don't have armor it doesn't slow them down so they just slash like madmen. Also the troll I glitched into had a speed of about 980, so an unencumbered peasant probably gets two or three cuts in before a troll can tusk them. imho it also makes sense for a boning knife to be sharper than a big sturdy broad sword, but I've never been personally slashed by either so what do I know.

Now I know dude.

First two died to bogeymen.  Next guy took a mace to the chest from a ringleader and broke his spine.  He made it away but couldn't stand anymore.    After that tit was a pair of successive giant scorpion ambushes.

I figure I'll get the hang of it sometime...

The trick is to 'A'im for the legs to cripple them, then the hands to disarm them, and finally pound on their head/torso until they die. Oh, and never give multiple opponents the chance to attack you at once. If you move to 'A'ttack or through any other means notice that two or more enemies are adjacent to you at a given time, back away until you can deal with them individually. If you find yourself surrounded on all sides, try to get on the outside of the ring. If you've got a heavy backpack full of crap, remove and drop it to increase your speed, but remember to pick it back up after the fight, except with bogeymen; then you should just cut your losses and run.
Just don't screw with giant desert scorpions. They are pretty badass with the brain-rotting venom and being the size of a Prius with claws.

Or, in the case of a bronze colossus; fughedaboutit! Need an adamantine greataxe just to cut deep enough to have any chance in hell to destroy the damn things. Thrown coins seem to 'pass right through' if you've been fracturing it up with a silver whip for the last 20 minutes.

And that's exactly what I've done today. Human axewoman couldn't damage it with an iron greataxe so I whipped it to the point where everything was fractured. Still couldn't put it down. After throwing my entire backpack full of crap at it, most of which passed right through, and watching two of my companions sail off in graceful, bloody arcs to splatter against objects over a hundred yards away, I just used runemith to lift the damn thing 15 z-levels into the air and watch it plummet to the ground, where it exploded, leaving me a statue of a forgotten beast. Up until that point all my opponents had been "Evil Women" or "Woman Bridegrooms of Evil" (which were men.) and a couple banditos.
I'm the civilization's greatest ever hero now though, and the daft old man thinks it's a good idea to send me after an emperor dragon. Crap.
