I used to just laugh off Glenn Beck as entertainment for irrelevant stupid people. Then I realized that the Teabaggers are apparently a significant part of the Republican party and consider this guy a hero, and not a comedy hero. And that is terrifying.

I usually say I only support democracy because every other system is worse, but some days I doubt whether that's really the case. It seems to me that absolute rule by an enlightened philosopher-king is far preferable to any system that gives any influence whatsoever to people who take Glenn Beck seriously.

I'm not entirely serious about the philosopher king idea. Still, you have to admit that it sure sounds appealing given how brain-dead retarded a large proportion of the American electorate (or just about any electorate, really) is.
