Along the original topic, it's only dwarfy if they don't import any sand and/or glass.  It's all gotta come from a 6x6 square (however big that is in real units).

There is a severe lack of balistas on the moat, each constantly manned and armed, ready to destroy all enemies. Or have an accident and start a war between the US an UK. Either way is fun. :P

I see trees. I guess they need a few since towercaps don't grow in London.

No underground rivers or pools? I guess they need the beds.

Well, there's the Thames, and that has sand, of a sort. But it's at least a Major river, so it's filled with all sorts of flesh-eating monsters.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

VAT is the UK equivalent of sales tax.  You don't think diplomats in the US have to pay sales tax?

Uh, actually, no, they don't have to...

I believe Asian carp have managed to get that far...

Poor US diplomats. Little do they know the overseers are planning an unfortunate accident for their guests. Smaller caravan next year, I expect :\

Huh, it looks like you're right, sort of.  But the sales tax exemptions are very narrowly defined, and it doesn't look like a construction project would fall under any of them.

Full Exemption- A blue-stripe on a tax exemption card indicates full exemption from taxes on the purchase of all goods or services.
Unless "goods or services" are defined elsewhere in the document, the USA does offer select diplomats sales tax exemptions on construction projects.

It looks like a separate exemption is needed for construction, apparently on a quid-pro-quo basis.  Can't find any information on whether the UK embassy got a previous exemption that would cause the US to expect one in return.

Now I wonder if an ambassador counts as a noble. And if there might be any trouble with the plumbing in his rooms.

The reason the moat doesn't go all around is so to let traders in to the drowning room trading post.

Embassy construction should be exempt. Foreign diplomats are not required to pay taxes in the US, nor are they in most nations. If taxes were charged for the construction of the UK embassy, someone made a wrong decision somewhere, and such a decision was not challenged.

That the US embassy is displeased with attempts to enforce such charges on the USA is entirely justified. However, the inconveniences caused by the Embassy are regrettable, and the US is doing the right thing in building a new embassy elsewhere.

The Timberlake design is unlikely to be used though, it's unjustifiably expensive.
