Yes, they leave me alone now.  This probably has a lot to do with the fact that I rarely go outside or talk to people (outside of the math department, which is rather more understanding).

I know how to fight.  When the problem is that everyone around you likes to yell at you, pick on you, and tell you how terribly unreasonable/odd/crazy you are ("everyone I interact with" is a very small set, you see), you just can't fight anymore after a point.  I'm sick of getting mooched off of, dumped on, and told how bizarre and unlike other people I am.

So, do I need to learn how to fight if my mother is beleaguering me and telling me I'm powerless/that I shouldn't follow my dreams/whatever?  Not really.  I need to go study hard so I can live where I want, far away from her.
A follow your dreams thing, eh?

Well, good luck to ya. You'll be back though. They always come back. Plus, you'll figure out enough parallels between your life and the stream that it the world, varying as it is, to learn that you are a part of the we, no matter what or where you are.

See ya.

I... haven't left yet.  I am in fact in two games and running one.  I'm just ditching my planned games until I've gotten my schedule figured out.

I would highly recommend finding a good dojo for Ju Jitsu, Aikido, or a similar art - not only for the physical defense aspect, but also for the mental aspect. Budō has been one of the strongest positive influences in my life.

Did kendo.  As I said, I had a habit of going berserk.

Well... hmm.

I dunno, I read this around three times a week for almost four years, and I have to say Ju Jitsu was great for me. It gives a good framing to the art.

Enjoy your huge amounts of studying, Vector.  I suppose between 14-18 hours of maths, eating and sleeping there isn't a huge amount of time left for anything else ;D.

Thanks for the advice.  I've been thinking about going back to martial arts at some point (naginata-do, aikido, or some branch of kung fu), but I'm trying not to put anything else on my plate until I've figured out how the mathematical part of my life will work.

Thank you!  No, there really isn't... I'm currently going with the 14-hour model so that I'll have 4 hours or so of leisure time a day, but math is one of those things that sucks you in and generally won't let you out.

*sigh*  I'm so excited.  Went down to the math library yesterday and picked up a stack of books on number theory to add to my Algebra program.

Ah well.  I guess I'll kinda miss you - noone else really plays mafia in the same way.  And you're probably the player I'd most like to have as a scumpartner after BYOR: PE and RSBM (even with the betrayal :P).  Plus I quite wanted an arRay role in Bay 12 Mafia 2...

Hmm... also, would your leisure time be maths related as well?

No, it would probably be "learning Japanese (I have such a backlog of manga it is not even funny)," "playing some computer games I've had on the backburner for years," "catching up on novels, so I can get rid of some of them because my mom is on a 'Oh my god what if we have to move' stint again"... and also Mafia-related  ;D

The current plan is to see how the current games I'm in work out with the new schedule, and then go re-in for a game or two (or three).  My current guess is that most of the scheduling-pull I'm feeling is due to BMIX (I don't know if you've seen the flavortext for that monster, but it's huge.  Flavored prods and specific night PMs for every player), so that once I'm done running that I'll feel more comfortable signing up for whatever I feel like.  At the moment, however, I'm just putting in a system-wide cutback to make sure the math gets taken care of, and then I'm going to add stuff back in.

I mean, there are certain games that I'd definitely come back and play, like RSBMII or Bay12 Mafia 2.  Same goes for I//S//E, IMBML(BM(M)), and so on.  I've mostly realized that there's a very specific subset of games that I really enjoy, and I'd rather play the one of those that's usually running at a time than loads of games.  Though I enjoy Mafia in general, I'd rather try to maximize my enjoyment over time and focus on a narrower subset.

In other words, this isn't farewell.  This is me standing back and rethinking my life a little bit.  You can't get rid of me that easily!

Hehe... I guess you could try irc sometime if you ever happen to have a free moment.  It's nice in that you don't need to make a long term commitment to anything.

Yeah, Alexhans actually suggested that just a bit ago.  I'll probably try it pretty soon  :)

Hey Vector!
Keep in touch with Bay12.

You have a lot of similar interests to me too!

They're going to let me skip a grade in high school for math.  :-D

I will, and that's awesome =)  Enjoy your own adventures in mathematics--it's a beautiful place.

I mean hell, my shop I'm doing (Electronics) is so much more advanced then my current academic class.

I'm talking phase-shifts, trigonometry, solid-state physics, electromagnetism, etc.

Heh, should be good.  I think Alexhans might just be looking for another n0 kill candidate, actually, but...

Various points:

Yeah, martial arts will (or at least should) be a heavy commitment; better to put it off a while until you're more settled into your crazy schedule, speaking of which 14 hours work/studying and 4 leisure means 6 sleep which is Not Cool.

IRC Mafia is great for a low-time-commitment source of mafia-ness, with the plus side of watching Alexhans flip the fuck out all the time.

Math is indeed fun. I miss calculus but I don't remember how to derive or integrate, and a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam means I can't relearn it at the university. ;_;
Yeah, I've gotten a lot of weird looks for telling that to people.
