Saw the update. Does this mean that GA is broken until they run their next version?

Lucas tried it out earlier today and he commented that it appeared to be working properly.

Whether it's actually fully compatible or not, I'm not sure, but it is pointing towards "No, not broken".

small discovery:

The mouse wheel bug is now only part of the custom race options. it seems to be fixed everywere else. so: your bug fix did infact work for the majority of it, the game is playable :) thanks.

EDIT: If you have the crash in the race customisation screen when you try to scroll up or down like i do, turn descriptions off and try scrolling then :) Though it will still crash if you scroll to the bottom of the page of traits.

Is there a mod out there that allows for no homeplanets? As in, you can just live with ships and stations.

You could do that on your own I suppose, no mod necessary. Just make mining stations instead of colonizing. Build them in orbit and ship resources in via cargo ships.

Hey, it's a necro!!!

Anyways, firstly this is an awesome game, secondly, do you guys put max limits on # of ships in your games? Cause mine is starting to slow down a bit, and for those who play GA, how do I effectively manage my overheating? My heatsinks just seem to make things alot worse.

EDIT: Actually, it seems I forgot to take one of my worlds off of auto-produce after a pirate raid, made ~3000 fire-and-forget fighters in the end, so maybe THAT was the problem, will have to scuttle them all.

Before I got distracted by life, I was putting a ship limit of about 50/star, and typically doing 120-150 star games (vanilla, no GA yet).  Never saw any noticeable slowdown, but I rarely got past mid-game because I was still trying to grok smoothing out my economy.

XP box, 2.6GHz dual core, 3GB RAM, cheapo nvidia card, for reference.

I want to fiddle with SR a bunch more, but I think I really need a new computer before I try...  This one has been getting quirky, independent of any game's performance.  :(

Well i'm waiting for GA 2.0 before coming back. However the game design is clearly not for me. I always played on something like 1.2 gain per level and 3.0 or more in research cost to make it closer to my preference (read: slower).

I liked base star ruler, but GA really rubbed me the wrong way. So many things that simply did not work properly, including what appeared to be important features.

I go for 1.1 in research gain and costs, with a smaller universe.

I must say, the speed of the game is way to fast, and the diplomacy could definately use some overhaul, but the other features make up for it I think.

Anyways, GA is finicky for me so I might go back to vanilla, which is a shame, cause I like alot of it's features. Regardless, Ive been playing 300-system games with 3000 spacing (default I think?) and it gets laggy mid-to-late game because EVERYTHING is revealed. I usually play with an ally, not sure why because they never help with wars, so if I disable that, maybe that'll reduce some lag, but im also on my samsung laptop and not may asus gaming one so, im sure could run with 100,000 ships in 1,000 systems on that one.
