As for the IP if they are still logged in, when I changed IP earlier, I was watching the log of the person who logged into mine.

Then it wouldn't refresh, and claimed that there was no server at that IP.

So I can say that it is likely that resetting your IP will only give the new one to them if they have a virus, and maybe not even then.

Sure. If I log off, it won't screw anything up right?

AFAIK you *do* need to log back into that IP to let the process complete.  The log gets updated at that point too, so its a good idea anyway.

Also, found this logging into a machine:

Why is it that sometimes banks take two minutes to crack into, and sometimes more than eight?

I found that image too.

Here is what I found, plus a diffrent one. Both had been escaped a few times (where \ becomes \\ and ' becomes \')

Neither is mine, though I sort of wish they were.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

new reply while post edit:
It may vary with your CPU, how many other CPU-based tasks are also being run, the bank itself, and if a player had deleted their firewall recently.

The first one I originated.  A friend of mine made it.

Spoiler: ascii goatse image (click to show/hide)

I doubt he's really "DarkEnergy", since he deleted the other one that said DarkEnergy.

It's not "Goatse" its "Goatse.cx" read "goat sex."
Hence why it says "goatsex" around the edge.
That's pretty funny though.

Yea that DarkEnergy guy seems alright, I was waiting for a download when I saw a conversation between him and a newbie asking for help with a riddle.  He helped him out without giving the whole riddle away, and posted his little demon as his calling card.  So somebody probably just placed his name in that last one.

As for the goons, I haven't seen any sign of them.  Or anyone else for that matter that wasn't a bay 12er.  But I don't mess with folk's files other than installing unhidden virus installers.  Only times I ever hacked a VPC maliciously were when the forum called a hit, and even then I showed up too late to contribute.

Hell I think I uploaded helpful files to newbies more often than I bothered anyone.  So maybe I just don't show up as a threat or something.

Yea, DarkEnergy hacked me but all he did was put in a 0.3 virus and hide it - no damage to my other files. He works the same way I do - move in, put in a virus, and leave. Only way I knew it was him was he responded to my message in the log with his little calling card.

Oh, and the bank thing: It's 1/3 the time if the firewall has been deleted. So if its 8 minutes its with firewall, 2-3 minutes someone has killed the firewall. The firewall apparently respawns pretty often.

I just killed the firewall on the newbie bank again - I'm trying to hack an account that I saw someone xfer 1000 euros into, and it was only in the log for like half a second, so I think it might still be there :o

I have the worst luck with accounts. I'll crack some crappy one that has 10 euros in it on the first try, then I find  a really good one and it takes me 500 tries.

-edit - lol now some bum keeps reuploading the firewall. This is so annoying, I already tried 19 times without success on this one account. If any money was in there they probably had plenty of time to spend it by now.

Somebody else may have saw it too.  I don't hack bank accounts but I hear alot of the higher up players will upload a high level firewall to the bank so that they have fewer folks watching them move the money to their accounts.

Haha, apparently someone re-upped my IP to the bank after I had cleared it and logged out.

So watching my logs I've got 11 people's IP so far. Yay?

Haha, that 182.10.161.106 guy came back and hid my files (which are all backed up on external) and posted the goatsex thing again. Why does he waste his time? What a loser.

That was great. I had everything pre-downloaded, so I just went from a wiped harddrive to a full harddrive of 1.0 stuff and an IP reset in 5 seconds. I just left the log on the place I downloaded since it was the old IP lol

I have....75 known addresses (16 known NPCs) of which 25 have a firewall level higher than my waterwall.  Which I could fix if my hard drive was about 1 GB bigger (I know where to get a level 5.6 waterwall, which is approx. 5 GB in size).

I also have 8 bank account numbers.
