Also on that note, Hydrogen has twice the lifting strength of Helium. This means twice the fuel, or bigger blimp parties... and a little bit of volatile combustibility never hurt anyone keeps everyone on their toes.

Another alternative is Ammonia gas... it keeps gas costs down, is about on par with helium, can be liquified easily for better control of lift, makes for an emergency fuel, and if the blimp ruptures it just leaks incredibly toxic gas which will turn into a cloud of acid when mixed with atmospheric water. All in all, a fair trade.

Ammonia is a good idea. What do we think about renting servers to various mildly law-breaking websites?

To be fair, so do I. And so do you.

Oh man.... Partial Vacuum Airships. Then even regular air can be lighter than air, and if mass is more of an issue than cost, a Helium Partial-Vacuum could be lighter than even Hydrogen!

The FUN for this design is that a single perforation or significant imperfection in the lift chamber would cause the whole thing to implode at supersonic speeds, with the sudden pressure differential possibly blowing every passenger's heads up.

Oh man.... Partial Vacuum Airships. Then even regular air can be lighter than air... and if mass is still an issue, a Helium Partial-Vacuum could be lighter than hydrogen.

The FUN for this design is that a single perforation or significant imperfection in the lift chamber would cause the whole thing to implode at supersonic speeds, with the sudden pressure differential possibly blowing every passenger's heads up.
Obviously, this is the best course of action.

Already doing that.

Love the derail (as common as they are), but this was the photo-thread. Could we leave it like that? Or I'm going to have to post oldies again.

D'aww.

My dog (well, my brother's) is a bitch. I say that literally and figuratively. She's a manipulative little monster, who will lie, cheat, and steal to get her way.
