Alien versus predator Three, releases On the nineteenth.
« on: January 25, 2010, 01:55:36 pm »

Is anyone excited about this game? I know i am.

It seems a little unfairly balanced againt the marines, though i assume they will get some nice toys, and have a higher player cap than the aliens or predators.

WHat are your views?

AVP 1 is one of the best LAN games, 1 or 2 aliens V a squad of marines! sneaking around on the ceiling, knocking out all the lights, picking them off one by one :D

It seems like 3 could go either way. Apparently everyone but the marines can get really really easy insta-kills, which is terrible. Seems like the devs are doing the standard dumbing-down manouver.

I really do hope its good though, it's got such potential... Allthough they managed to mess up the avp movies pretty spectacularly, so who knows?

I played it at game expo. It was fun. Maybe it was from the lack of experience, maybe it was goddamn HDR that kept people confused, but me, as a cloaked predator, killed both aliens and marines with ease(It was 2v2v2 game) It only takes one-two wristblade backstabs to kill someone, and it's really hard to notice cloaked things on the map that was on. Judging from what I saw, it will be great, at least in multiplayer.

Aren't predators not supposed to attack while cloaked? I could be wrong on that though.

Yeah, i heard about this too...and it seems stupid to me. As i remember the first predator movie he hadn't problem to attack cloaked.

The game? Looks fun.

The movie? Facepalming.

Predator series = OMGWIN
Aliens series = OMGWIN + 20 wins.
AvP 1 = Wait, what?
AvP 2 = Oh god, kill me...
AvP 3 = ...

This game looks incredible, the only reason I haven't preordered it on a whim is I haven't gotten around to cashan my checks yet so I don't have the moneys in my bonk.

And I hardly see how sync-kills are dumbing the game down.

You want to see something hilarious?  Go to the AVP 3 page on steam.  In the top right corner is a thumbnail for the trailer, showing a marine about to get headbitten.  It's small so the image is slightly distorted and the guy's mouth blends into his face.  His moustache kind of looks like a mouth, so it looks like he's going >:C

And yeah, predators aren't supposed to attack cloaked or rely on their ranged weapons.  Something about hunter's honor.  This stuff all came after the original movie, which is why that predator did all that stuff.

from what ive heard, the sync kills work in a way that if you get behind the enemy, you mash a button, and they die. As in, no lining up your second set of jaws (like in the first avp) or having to be right behind them. From the previews ive read its just too easy to pull off. I've not played it myself, and I hope it's not true, I'm just going of some previews I've read.

The movies sucked more than anything because AVP is a no-brainer. Theres comics/games/novels, etc that allready have the formula down pretty solid, then the films came along and messed it up royaly. Making a bad AVP film should be harder than making a good one, it writes itself really. Marines land somewhere... aliens are there... oh no a predator! :P

The trailer pretty clearly shows a marine fighting off an attempted headbite, I think there will be a reflex-based means of surviving a sync kill.

It seems like a lot of people are whining about the way the jumping works.  You get a spot on your reticle and you can automatically jump to the spot.  They're saying it's "dumbing it down for casuals," a phrase that makes veins pop out in my head it's so overused.  I guarantee that if they made you have to jump from branch to branch people would be crying and moaning about how the controls are too clunky.

Bamp.  Demo's coming out within the next week or so, and it might have multiplayer.

Are you excited?  I'm excited.

If this is about the RTS alien vs predator, i loved the aliens. I just wanted to keep on playing them forever. And i think the main problem with the humans is that whether you killed a small fry, or killed a nearly unstoppable super pred alien, it only gave you 15 points. That and you only get so many resources form those atmosphere things.

Yeah, I saw. I have mixed feelings about it. On the bright size, you don't do those huge clunky jumps just to get somewhere that needed a precise small one. So it reduces the ammount of unnecessary movement. It might as well kill bunny hopping. On the other hand, if you jump to somewhere wrong, you can't change your mind in middle-jump. That's a good and bad thing. Good since it's more realistic, but bad since it's a game and sometimes you notice something and go "OH FUCK NO!"

This is not.

And yeah, it'll suck not being able to correct a jump when you're totally in the zone and don't even realize you're jumping into someone's line of fire.  I hate realizing my mistake before it takes effect but after I'm no longer able to correct it.

where did this idea of predators not attacking whilst cloaked come from. Im pretty sure the point of cloaking was to assist in attacking, and they use it in Pred 1 & 2 and avp 1 & 2 games. Ive always favoured the marine, as i like the survivalist paranoia.

Avp 1 and 2 were two of my favourite games, if i had a pc that could run this, i would be in eager anticipation.
