Commercial spaceports cut down the time taken to load cargo, passengers and troops. level 1 cut's the time in half, level 2 to 1/3, level 3 to 1/4 and so on.

Humans can't tolerate oxygen levels over 30% of the overall atmosphere on a planet, thats probably what did it.

It's not that they can't tolerate it, it is because with greater than that level of concentration of oxygen the atmosphere becomes rather prone to exploding.

edit:

Actually.

Although if you want to get into the semantics of it, I don't think we can >tolerate< O2 poisoning or an atmosphere that will ignite with an accidental spark.

That article actually supports what I said. Humans can quite freely breathe 100% oxygen as long as the partial pressure of oxygen is kept under 0.3 atmospheres.

No, not unusual. The civilian sector will mushroom out of control if you let them, which can cause massive slowdowns and problems later in the game. If this happens you can requisition a civilian ship by using a tractor beam on it. As civilians will never upgrade their ships I will sometimes use this to remove an old ship and then give the line funding to match the cost of the ship that I requisitioned and let them build a new design one.

So. I have a jump gate on both sides to leading to the Proxima Centauri A system I told you about, and I want to blast all fuckers who come through it to kingdom come. My question is this: Can PDCs be towed anywhere? Or namely, on top of a jump gate/point?

PDCs are ground-based. If you're wanting permanent defenses, you'll need to build fortresses in orbit and tow them over.

How so? You stated that partial pressure is irrelevant to habitability, and that the dangers of high-O2 environs lie in the potential for combustion. The article points out that exposure to O2 at partial pressures greater than the norm humans are adapted to is dangerous.  ???

Edit: Nevermind, confusion arose because I didn't notice the error in Crusty's statement.

PDCs are literally bunkers in the mountains, so no.  You'd have to build Orbital Weapons Platforms, which are essentially engine-less ships.

Actually, it would be interesting if the game could model ripping the equivalent of the NORAD bunker out of a mountain and hauling it into space, just for the hell of it.

Okay Aurora, stop screwing with me. Current researchers:
  • 3x C&P
  • 3x P&P
  • 3x DEF
  • 2x EW
  • 1x L&GF

Several minutes later, I get a Missile/Kinetics specialist... With 0% bonus.  ::)

How do I transfer crew from one ship to another and how do I scrap ships?

You can scrap ships at a planet with a shipyard, or by ordering the crew to abandon ship and then salvaging the wreck. The only way to 'transfer' crew is to pick up their lifepods and drop them off at a friendly planet. You can assign naval officers to ships with the Commanders window. (System view, top left, looks like a face).

Just found six non-hostile 200TH (only a bit higher than my FACs) contacts in a system with no habitable worlds. They're around 3km/s slower than my survey ships (2997km/s), and have ASes with a range of just under 25mkm. So in other words, they're shite. Can't be Swarm, because they aren't hostile, same deal with not being Precursors. I guess I just found an interstellar NPR with crap ships.

Okay, nevermind. They just ramped up to 5000km/s and squashed one of my survey ships with a volley of STR-7 warheads that apparently have terrible range. My frigates are out of date, and they don't have the size to mount JDs, so I'm going to go in for a round of overhauls.

What impacts the speed of the game itself, as far as time between turns and loading and whatnot? It seems to be kind of crawling after just firing it up. Wat do?

Well, if you've got an NPR somewhere in the galaxy fighting with something else, it will be taking a lot of 5 second turns. Your options with that are either to start a new game, use Dev Mode (I probably wouldn't recommend this if you're not already familiar with it and don't have the password) to delete the NPR, or just struggle through it and wait for the combat to be resolved. Incidentally, if you put more than one starting NPR, that can really increase the chances of this.

Edit: Oh gog. I just unlocked all my commercial designs to keep my civ lines from building anything, except for a new 170,000 tonnage superfreighter design that I can't even build yet... The first line, with something like 200k wealth from all those supermoneymakers, has built one less than a month after I first locked the design.  ::)

But HOW, and WHERE? I'm massively annoyed how I can't find this obviously simple function.

Economics window: Manage Shipyards tab: Create Task area: Task Type scrolldown window: Scrap.

This is also how you can repair and refit ships. Keep in mind, if you have a newer version of the ship you're scrapping, you should check to see if it would be cheaper to refit it than to build a new one.
