I would have been in favor of conventional, since it gives time to introduce the game without things getting bogged down in mechanics. But TNE is fine too.

Thats pretty much my thinking, but we'll start with TNE for this one.

I'll get the game set up and the original save posted on Mediafire shortly.

Just don't be surprised if you start seeing new species all of a sudden...

That just adds to the Fun. Who doesn't like stumbling upon a hostile race and getting your survey ships nuked to hell and back?

On the fun side, who doesn't like stumbling upon smoldering heaps of what used to be alien ships to exploit?

Not you, because those seemed to signal Swarm. On another note how did your fight with the Swarm go ?

All this reading has almost inspired me to take another attempt at the game... failing miserably multiple times and crazying softly into my pillow at night while the Fairies of Aurora whip me with electrified cattleprods.

Though I want to wait until an update of any significance happens for some reason.

Well given last time I played I stopped because trying to get ships to even dig asteroids or other planets was nearly impossible for me to do... I don't know.

I regard the Swarm as vermin, not a race. Nothing happened yet, I was building my military and making sure I had some decent tech by the time I had to abandon my only good PC.

Actually, I was referring to new species.  If you unlock genome research, you can make a new race with different planetary tolerances, like higher gravity and less oxygen.  I made Mooninites to survive on Luna's lower gravity at 0.0 cost (with heavy terraforming for oxygen and temp).  So expect a decidedly furry species to take up residence somewhere in Sol (probably an asteroid).

It's all the same empire, same player-control specs and resources and stuff, just a different "population".  Two populations on the same world make two different colonies.

They also get pissed and throw fits if they're under a certain percent of your empire's population.

I know, so expect sudden gene mod overload.  Is there any way to view your empire's pop reports?

Dunno, never worked with a new species.

But you better sign up soon before the earlier ones are taken, so you can get that species made earlier :P

Frankly while I wanted to try it, just thinking about the logistics made me go uttarly insane.

Honestly, I never saw much point to it. Most useful worlds can be terraformed to 0.00, and the others can be stripmined even if you can't colonize them.

Aurora on small monitors:
1. Game Parameters -> Reduced Height Windows.
2. Lock taskbar to the right side of your desktop.
3. Run Resize Enable
