now, if you had to rank it between 1 and 10, how stupid would it be?
there MUST be something against having missiles as big as a small ship

I'm going with 11, you're pretty much setting yourself up for pure, distilled Urists of waste and stupidity. If you have to go with oversized missiles, cut yourself down to size 20 or so and use THIS to fine-tune your missiles to exactly what you need them to be. Size 20 lets you mount five times as many launchers, so you get a throw weight of five times as many missiles for them to shoot down. In the missile game, quantity can count just as much as, if not more than, quality. Honestly, I'd suggest going with missile size 10 over 20 if you really wanted to swat down the HFS.

Vorbicon, you need to create a new class with the new engines. Go in the design window, copy the design and change the engines on the new design. Then mark the old one as obsolete, so it doesn't clutter your design list.

Then you only need to refit your ships to the new design.

Little note about Refitting :
In the "DAC / Rank / Information" tab, you have a dropdown that show you the cost of reffiting from another ship-class.
The nearest the new ship is from the old one, the cheapest ;)

Also, if the cost of refitting is less that 20% of the cost of a class, you can also build that class along with th efirst one.

Both are unlikely if you're dealing with engines, however.

yes, refitting is useful only for minor upgrades... a complete change of technology ( or even just the engines) is going to cost almost as much, if not more, than just building a new ship.

by the way, how can I add an enemy ship for the purpose of testing new weapons? I would just use empty shells built by my own empire, but the game wouldn't allow me to target them ( such a pity... I would get much more information.)

Have you met hostiles ?

Because there is a "give to another empire" button in the second tab of a task group...
How about giving them  ship with no weapons and getting it down ?

good idea... the aliens guarding the ruins will be perfect. I already started a war against them, so it shouldn't cause trouble.

Oh gawd. Waiting for NPR-induced 5 second increments is painful enough. Imagine waiting for a human player!

Plus, Java suxs.  It accounts for the vast majority of the viruses I've ever gotten.

And the whole "multiplayer" thingy interferes with my anti-social tendencies.

And there are far too many "apps" for a cellphone I will never own.

Overall, worst idea ever.  Congrats!

I like how the civilian sector seems to work. I put down a small amount of infrastructure on Mars to start a colony, got distracted elsewhere and forgot all about it. Some time later, I noticed a civilian shipping company that had set down a bunch more infrastructure and was transporting colonists there as well. Is this pretty normal? Set things up for the civilian sector to do, then just let them go to town?

Yup.

It's a bit random but it's fun to watch.
