Okay, I have a wreck in the system. The wreck is not showing up on the list of objects from the task groups window, even with 'wrecks' checked on. Do I need to first identify it with active sensors?

Yes just turn on some active sensors near the wreck and should show up

Hm, I made a waypoint near the wreck and ran a cargo ship with an active search sensor out there, then told it to turn on active sensors at the WP but still no wreck. Maybe it wasn't strong enough?

Have you got the latest 5.01 patch? Steve made an error with wreck targeting in 5.0 which is fixed for 5.01. I had the same problem till I patched.

Ah that may be it. Can I use the same save or will this break my game?

Edit: Nevermind I see he says it won't break the save.

Wow, the level of depth is just mind-boggling. The game almost has you picking laser lenses personally!

It's very interesting, and my mind's doing it best to absorb all the concepts. It's going to take some time, though. :o

Do you have the forum set as extremely dark colors or something?

Nah, it was that I didn't have the 5.1 patch. Now that I do, I can target them fine. :)

Hard to determine tone over the web. :)

So have you guys developed any habits which help you stay organize in Aurora? Now that I've moved out to about 15 systems I find myself forgetting things.

Grav Survey ships get the system they are supposed to be operating in in their TG name.  Immensely handy when you get a orders not possible from a gravsurvey that came back for a refuel and have no clue in the least what system it just abandoned.  When their system changes I change their task group name while I'm giving them the transit orders to the next system.

PDC all join a taskgroup named. "ZZ [Insert colony name here] garrison"  The 2 zs keep them on the very bottom of the task groups list, where I never have to think about them.

I use more or less the same class names between games.  Stirge is always a high speed military stealth scout, Gryphon is always a heavily armed laser and plasma corvette between 10k and 15k tons.  Aboleth is always my primary EWACS ship, and my PD ships are Orthrus if below 15k tons and Cerberus if above 15k, to name a few.

One thing I do, which may or may not be good, is to give each colony or potential colony its own freighter group. Sol currently has two due to the amount of stuff I move around, Tau Ceti has one, etc. Each group has a number of freighters in it that I deem appropriate for the system and expected volume of shipping.

My fleet org looks like this:

Code: [Select]
Fleet HQ
-Supply
 -Jumpgate Construction (2 JCV's)
 -Freight
-Sol (2 groups under this, total 10 freighters)
-Tau Ceti (1 group, 2 freighters)
-Lacaille 9352 (1 group, 5 freighters. Major mining complex here)
 -Orbital Refineries
  -Sol (3 refineries on jupiter)
-Lacaille 9352 (1 refinery on a gas giant)
-Tugs (3 groups with individual tugs)
-Survey Command
-1st Gravitational Survey Fleet (3 survey cutters, 2 FAC defense ships, 1 survey command vessel with jump drive, lots of fuel and maintenance, PD weaponry and very good sensors)
 -2nd Gravitational Survey Fleet (Same)
 -1st Geological Survey Fleet (Same)
 -2nd Geological Survey Fleet (Same)

I have no actual military ships beyond the FAC system patrols and the PDC's on each planet.

Does anyone know if he's fixed civilian sector going through jump gates? While the civilian ships will go fine, I have yet to have a civilian mining complex appear anywhere outside Sol.
