Hah, while working on the galaxy for a LP I'm considering, I genned a binary system with the secondary component 2812 billion km out. That'll be fun to work with.  :D

The A-component is a G7-IV; 1.43 mass, 4.0m diameter, and 4.6 luminosity. The B-component is a K3-V; 0.72 mass, 1.11m diameter, and 0.26 luminosity.

(By way of reference, Sol's diameter is 1.39m, and the mass and luminosity are based on Sol, with values of 1 set as the default for each.)

So the A-component is slightly more massive, has much greater volume, and is 4.6 times as bright, while the B-component is slightly larger, much less massive, and much dimmer.

Should I also include a link to the instruction manual for the Human Eyeball, Mark One, and usage thereof?  :P

On my new game I see a jumpgate in sol. In about 5 years I investigate it with a Survey Command Ship and its two escorts. The Survey Command ship is Capable of 2 size 6 ASM salvos and has 3PD tubes. The escorts have 8 PD tubes each a Gauss turret and a CIWS. On the other side I detect 1 Class 0 Planet. I send my surveyor fleet to investigate and boom Hostile Civilization of Eagle people. They have two incoming ships A Battlestar Thermal sig of 2700 and a smaller Imperium of 1800 thermal sig. 2 Salvos of what appear to be PD missiles impact my ships and damage the armor about 40 missiles per salvo. These things are going too fast to intercept going at 52000 Km/s my only hope is to delay them and send my defensive fleets to picket the Jumpgate

Congratulations on an interesting game.

Also if the jumpgate is one-way, you have a big strategic advantage, maybe enough to overcome the tech difference.

Sounds like a pair of Precursor AMM ships. Come back with ships with heavy armor and PD, and shields if you have halfway decent ones yet.

Yeah, Precursor AMMs are usually the toughest things for me to take on in early game (see my fic writeup of the "Battle of Tau Ceti"). Precursors had two stationary platform, one AMM and one Gauss PD. Ripped me a new asshole between the two of them. The good thing is that Precursors don't do logistics, so it's possible to get them to expend all their ammo on a decoy made of nothing but lots of armor and a few engines, then move in for the kill with your real fleet.

I lost that game because the Precursors followed me into sol, ripped apart my mainfleet and destroyed Earth.
