Dude, the Something Awful forums looove Dwarf Fortress.  The whole damn lot of them.  Every videogame related Photoshop Phriday since Boatmurdered in 2006 has had Dwarf Fortress references.  Heck, I'm pretty sure that's where a good chunk of Toady's December donations come from each year.  EDIT: Wow, the title was "Mechanical Ape's craftdwarfship is of the highest quality."  Awesome.

They think we're a bunch of sycophantic idiots by the way.

I think that's how they think about everybody. Including their own. I visited/been a member of that site (got rid of it after being a member for maybe a year) in a past life. Simply put, at times, they get merciless. I mean, they made 4chan, right?

Hell, they even have a board made for trolling other members, and other things that just aren't right (sometimes, by their standards). I can barely read through some of them. And they get thorough with their searching and info-diving. I think I recall that sometimes, the front page of the site announces the best helldump of the time, or something.

You'd have to be ridiculously lucky to get out of there with your sanity and reputation still intact if you're a victim of the Helldump. Even moreso if it was goldmined. And if it bleeds into 4chan and /b/... May God have mercy on your soul.

I see they must've had another update. The icon looks much different than the last one I saw.

I'm not counting on the site being any better behaved. I can only imagine how many more goons have spawned in that place since I left.

I guess someone must've threatened to sue SA, along with the members for being helldumped, and succeeded in convincing them. Well, that's good news to hear.

Heck, it was one of the reasons I left that site. It was reaching levels of becoming inhumane beyond reason. I've thumbed through some of those out of curiosity, and it was the description of horrible. Not awful (which would be fine), but horrible. I mean, I still get a feeling of unforgiveness towards that board since I've seen it. And I'm generally a forgiving person most of the time.

Being a member of this forum after being there felt like a godsend to me. It generally made me feel like a much better person leaving there. Plus, unlike over there, I can actually relate with more people over here. It just got rough. I mean, HD practically looked like an unemployment office for laid-off clowns of torment. Might as well coat the walls of the place in adamantine.

Ironically, it was SA that was responsible for getting me interested in DF in the first place (Boatmurdered and all), and the forum later on.

I can never remember imageshack ever doing this, or any other free imagehosting site I've used in my life. Maybe some do, somewhere, but not the ones I've used.

So yes, they did stop, years ago, if they ever started to begin with.

No, it was pretty much decided that Helldump stopped being funny.  You're too paranoid, I think.

And SA is without a doubt the best moderated, organized, and content-filled of the larger forums out there.  Not to mention all the perks of being a member.

Shrug!  But SASS is pretty much universally people who got banned from SA or 'spurned' in some way, so it's hardly an unbiased source.
