Actually your gourd was replaced by an Octopus Commando fifteen minutes ago.

Gladly, my house is filled with novels about War, and history in general.
That, and there are a helluva lot of silverfish in those.

The octopi took your house a couple of days ago and you haven't noticed yet due to the chip they put in your brain while you were asleep. They have been studying human history and tactics in preparation of the invasion.

If by 'chip' you mean 'octopus' then yes.

The Octopodian Special Forces are ultimately a reconnaissance and information gathering taskforce. They latch on to unsuspecting humanoids and use them to gather valuable data about the surface dwellers. Once they have gathered enough information, they detach and scurry away to the sea, where they are slowly building their cephalopodic databases on mankind and planning their eventual invasion.

I was pretty impressed by a band of cuttlefish that formed a tight formation and changed colours to mimic a landing strip. Last I heard they were reverse engineering some fighter jets...

What possible use would Cuttlefish have for fighter jets? It seems more likely to me that they'd pretend to be a dry dock and steal a nuclear submarine.

No no, it's totally true!  They have a really great squad and call themselves "The Cuttle Cuddlers," but I'm not sure why, aside from the cuteness of it.  That's just the way they roll.

There's still hope!

Merely wait the requisite four million years for eels or sharks to evolve legs. Then they'll take care of those dastardly octopi!

Actually, let's just wait until Snakeheads obtain legs and tolerates saltwater

Off Topic: I love snakeheads. My friend owns one that he hand-feeds (without losing his fingers, somehow). They have an annoying tendency to try and jump out of the tank, though.

Well, eels already have a headstart on the "crossing dry land" thing, making them ideal for anti-octopus counter operations.

Don't snakeheads eat everything in their path and already go on land?

I have another idea, get a bunch of deep ones up here to show the octopi whos boss. Then again, we'll have to deal with the deep ones.
