Are you sure that they're not just killing them off? There's no cap that I know of, and there are people running games with >10 civs at any one time.

I suppose they could have died. I'll generate some more worlds to see.

There is a cap, but I believe it's somewhere in the realm of ~50 civs.  Worldgen tends to crash a lot once you get to that point I believe.

That doesn't sound like a hard cap to me, more like just something that comes about. But yeah, good to know.

Question is, who would try to gen a world with that many civs? Not like it isn't an appealing idea, besides the slowdown involved in having such a large world...

There are some people doing it in General Discussion to see how it works out, and the Megamix mod pack that is being worked on includes boatloads of civs, so the answer is quite a few people.
