Neruz, was there anything graphically that you didn't like about Avatar?

For example, I felt it was kind of fishy that the alien world looked exactly like Earth from space (notwithstanding the continental shapes) but that's more of a design decision I think.

But was there anything that stuck in your craw?

Are there any catchy songs in Avatar, like there are in Pocahontas?

The graphics themselves were beautiful, yes, the logic behind them was blatantly rediculous, not the least of which being the entire design of the Na'vi, in fact if you read back through the thread you'll notice that i've already repeatedly stated that the entire backstory is ludicrous.

But the technical graphics themselves are amazing, way ahead of everything else out there. Complaining about the graphics just shows you are an incredibly petty person.

Oh I'm not that petty. I could totally see how you can draw a value judgement about a person's whole personality based on saying the fire looked a bit off, though ;P

I'm just teasing. I did think the fire looked weird, but the rest of the graphics did look pretty awesome. I haven't played a 2009 / 2010 big-market video game - are the grahics in them anywhere near as good as the movie?

Avatar's CGI is years ahead of pretty much everything else. It's estimated Cameron's work on Avatar has shot the art of CGI forward five to ten years.

And the lowest common denominator for movies' plots down at least 20 years.

We will eventually just have theatres with swirly colors and LSD vending machines at this rate

Well, at least the tech advances. You know, people can always write a good story and shoot it with a camera from the 80s. It's not like the art of writing is advancing as fast as the art of CG.

I saw it recently. I enjoyed it. Graphically it is superb, story wise. Its meh. I thought it was well paced, there was good breaks in tension and the montage of life was well edited. Cinematography was excellent. From a hard core life long sci-fi fan, it felt all to familiar. I didnt see anything to innovative or done in combinations I haven't seen before.

CGI graphics havent been known to age well, so I dont think in a few years time I'm going to be recommending it to anyone.

You know, I'm starting to get optimistic about the trailer for Avatar II.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

So I just saw the movie today on DVD, one of my brothers bought it.

When I first heard of it, and read about all the hype I was kinda "meh".
Then when I saw that they had a whole stand of the DVD version at a local store I was discouraged from watching it.
But today when the opurtunity presented itself, i thought. "Atleast I will be seeing it for free."

And how it turned out?
I kinda liked it, a great movie and the CGI was stunning.
But that's all there is to me, a great movie and nothing else.

The scary thing is, you know people are real fans when they dress up like that, no matter the topic.
