lightweight cardboard box. 1/2 cm thick, custom made if necessary.
If box is made underspecification size significantly, add paper tail.

make a 9x9x9 container from cardboard.

Wrap egg in center of pantyhose. Twist both ends in opposite direction. Continue twisting untill pantyhose are in a knot. Don't actually make a knot from the pantyhose.

Tightly tie off pantyhose to distant corners. ensure egg is relatively omni-distant.
Ensure pantyhose stay within bounds.
place tiny pieces of paper on top corner ( perpendicular to pantyhose) of box. place tiny fishing weight at bottom.
Stuff box to brimming with extremely soft foam. cap cube fully with more pantyhose, to prevent foam escape.


Aditional reinforcement possible through multi-threaded pantyhose.

Add thick, padded bra to inside for additional comfort and support.

Glue the egg to a spring. Coil the spring and use it to launch the egg upwards at least one inch when it is released.
The egg will fall 25 feet down without breaking, then fall at least one more inch before hitting the pavement.
I suppose that adding a rocket motor in order to get your egg to fall 499 feet and 11 inches without breaking (and one more inch, but who cares), but that would just be showing off.

The spring can work, but it's very tough to get to work properly (primarily getting a spring with the proper K constant, center of balance, and tipping problems).

My mold isn't drying fast enough right now, I can't put the egg in, lest it sink to the washer levels, rendering everything else useless. If it's not dry in a few hours, I'm going to add a small pillar of foil to hold it up (which will also function as a crumple zone).

I think you misunderstand. I don't care what happens to the egg after it's fallen the required 25 feet. It's already fallen that. Anything that happens afterwords is moot.

The first thing you need to learn about engineering is to design to spec, not what's best.

Another solution: attach the egg to a small wieght with a coiled, 26-foot string. Drop the weight, but not the egg, or if that's not allowed, drop the egg onto a railing.

I would propose filling a 10^10^7 cm box with crumpled newspaper, then taping about 3cm of crumpled newspaper on the bottom. Fit the egg in the box so it's nice and snug, tape on the lid, and drop the whole box, newspaper-side first.
