"This world is corrupted".... 40d16
« on: November 25, 2009, 11:33:27 am »

I keep getting that message on my game, completely unmodded. The world keeps corrupting after 1-3 plays and i have to make a new one, even if i save it.
The message is, for clarity-
"This world is corrupted. Please restore from backup if able."

As well, the openGL version goes slower, where as last time it went faster! Any ideas on these problems, guys?

My specs are-
Windows XP 64-bit SP2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
3.10GHz, 4.00 GB of RAM.
Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT

When posting:

    * Choose a descriptive thread title that includes the DF version number.
    * If the game is crashing or refusing to open, include any error message that appears, along with your computer specifications and operating system.

This happens with every world you generate?  Where is the game installed?

C:\DFASCI

[C: is the drive where i install my stuff, as most of you do.]

It doesn't immediatly do it, but it varys. It eventually happens, after about maybe at most 4 plays.

Hm.  Do you do anything weird like move DF files around while you're playing?  Do you have an automatic backup service that could be, I dunno, maintaining locks on save files when DF wants to move them around?  If not, my only guess is hard drive failure, which would usually be accompanied by BSODs and unusual noises coming from your hard drive.

As for 40d## being slower, you sometimes have to tweak the PRINT_MODE setting in init to get a better framerate.

I strongly suggest backing up any important data now. You should be making backups regularly, of course, but most people don't bother. Inexplicable file corruptions can easily be caused by hard drive failures, and those can quickly escalate to the point that the drive is unusable and any data on it is lost.

BSODs and unusual noises coming from your hard drive.

Move DF files around while playing
To all 3 of those questions, no, no, and no. None of those happen.

Do you use an automatic backup service, such as Carbonite?  This is just a random and probably erroneous idea of mine that a backup service could screw up the way DF handles save files.

Nope, but i tryed another mod that installs[the DF fallout mod] and i didn't have the problem.

I'm going to redownload the DF file, maybe my original zip file was corrupted or something.

Perhaps a faulty virus/malware scanner is corrupting the data files, believing them to be malevolent?

Yeah, I have no further ideas on the cause (although hard drive failure still isn't out of the question), but turn on autosave and autobackup so you can restore from the backup next time this happens.
