"Suggestive" Advertisement
« on: November 06, 2009, 02:35:55 am »

A.K.A., the 'How Dirty Is Your Mind?' game.

Here we look at any sort of public advertisement that has a certain...  je ne sais quoi.

Take, for example, the following thumbnail taken from an ad on Facebook.  What is the first thought that pops into your mind?  Without being told, what do you think it is an advertisement for?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

History is fraught with all manner of suggestive advertisements, images with subliminal qualities, videos with "hidden" images or themes in them...   And also a very wide assortment of perfectly innocent items that are given new meaning by an overactive imagination.  Whatever the case, it's always good fun to spot these things and share it with a few understanding buddies from around the asylum!

So share your knowledge of advertisements with interesting undertones, your experience with pictures both sublime and subliminal, and how many tooth-whitening devices your eye originally calculated as a dildo.

By the way...  Evony is off-limits.  For the obvious reason of being obvious.

You know what I think of when I see that?

It looks like she's trying to commit suicide via barcode scanner/futuristic taser.

Something dental. Uses cosmic rays to whiten your teeth or something.

On closer inspection, maybe high-tech soap. Tooth shaver? I mean, it can't be anything too evil, her teeth are closed. Even if they weren't it'd probably look like futuristic compressed nutrients food.

As for other ones, maybe this:

Okay, it's not that objectionable. Still, it's hard to find good ones. What do YOU think it's for?

I'm not entirely sure how it works.  That picture just popped up on the side of my screen, and my peripheral ocular scanners picked up on it and sent an urgent report to High Command, who released signed permission for a Double-Take maneuver moments later.

As for the man with unfortunate pant-crinkles, I'd have to say some sort of exercise regime or weight-loss program.

There's a Coca-Cola poster that was released ages ago, with a hidden image in it that is quite frankly NSFW...  Supposedly, however, this was an independent addition by the artist, who was quickly sacked as soon as word about this image got out and the posters had to be recalled.

"Get a Coke down your throat" indeed...

You are really bad at finding good examles :) (I am too, so no good example from me)

However this is very risky type of advertisement. You will get a lot of people interested but a lot of people will turn you down before they even start to concern, what is you advertisement about.

Suggestive ads can be fine. Like the American Apparel ads. Or a thousand others you see on billboards and magazines. Just don't shove boobs in people's faces.

Or do. Seriously, go ahead. I'll just stand here, and pucker my lips a little.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Kagus, your example was kind of weak, don't you think?

I've seen way worse, and I don't think that one was even meant to be suggestive.

It's certainly not the most blatant or even interesting I've seen, but it's what inspired this thread.  It's not just intentional suggestive advertising, it's all the stuff we see and assign meanings to that weren't intended.

There's a bikini wax advertisement I saw a long time ago with some fun tricks in it, but now I can't find the damned thing.  However, I did find this:

Not exactly "suggestive", but it's funny.  'Least I think so.

Here's one. It's a Mercedes-Benz airbag advert. I was like "wtf?"

Ack.  I thought that was a spoiler!  The parenthesis confused me!

A lot of Hardee's commercials are fairly suggestive.  They're just barely hiding it. I hate them for it and never intend to go there.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.

The wunder boner is the only suggestive commercial... I bet my wife would like that.
