40d14 save glitch?
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:56:54 pm »

I can't save in version 40d14 outside of the seasonal save and starting a new fortress. Anyone know what's going on?

Exactly when and how are you saving.

Just with the "save and quit" function.

Well, I thought it would be obvious… but none of you know it from my perspective, so I might have left out details.
No save file is created. I can play the game, but for season-long sessions.

I've actually experienced this same phenomenon. When I save mid-season, and later load the save, it simply reverts back to the auto-save from the season's beginning. However, on occasion, it does save properly and I can load at the exact point I saved at. ???

I too have taken to playing season-long sessions, but sometimes when I have to drop everything and go out or to work or something, I basically have to choose between potentially losing all progress since the last season change, or just leaving the game on (running or paused) until I can come back to it to play. But it would be nice to know exactly what the determining factor is in whether the save "takes" or not...

Anyone else have this problem?

Are you sure you are looking at right folder?

This is common issue: If you load from autosave folder, game will save back to it.

So if you look at "Region1" save, it will appear old and as if you never saved, but you in fact did save to "Region1 year_x season_x".

But how do you load from "year_x session_x"? It creates a new folder in the "save" folder every time it autosaves...

You don't - you only ever load and save the "region1" folder, never the region1-xxx-yyy folders.

Really? So, for example, I start a new game, and I load region1 instead of region1-spr-201, it will save to region1 when I save and quit?

Yes. It saves to the file you load from.
