First semester grades are out. It's like someone ran a filter over my midterm results that said UNLESS grade==4, grade=grade-1.
That's out of 1-9, where 1 is excellent and 9 is you should die.
So the worst you got was four out of nine? Well that isn't so bad. Above average across the board, assuming these are scaled to rank. Did you know the majority of people are below average? You should be pretty happy!
If it's anything like the matriculation exam, the grade boundaries are determined by a distribution:
Lowest to highest
Improbatur - 5%
Approbatur - 11%
Lubenter approbatur - 20%
Cum laude approbatur - 24%
Magna cum laude approbatur - 20%
Eximia cum laude approbatur - 15%
Laudatur - 5%

Which is can be translated to grades 1-7, where 7 is the highest. Average grade is 4.08 and median is 4. So while technically most people are below the average, the difference is rather small.

Very similar.

Lowest to highest, it's
9- 4%
8- 7%
7-12%
6-17%
5-20%
4-17%
3-12%
2-7%
1- 4%

So you are in the top 40%, that sounds like something you should be satisfied with.

Fairly sure it's not something the system she's currently stuck in is satisfied with, unfortunately.

9~4: You should be ashamed of yourself, you terrible person you.
3: Okay, acceptable but you should do better.
2: Meh.
1: Nice, now go get the valedictorian spot :D

That's out of 317 students, by the way.

Class sizes and ranks make me sad. I would have passed the benchmark ranking I was hoping to get this year, but a bunch of kids dropped out, making it so that I stayed at exactly the same percentage point, pretty much.

Well, a number doesn't define who or what or how proficient you are at things.

It's the system :/

Make a comeback, sounds like its just your midterms. Because you can do it. :I

A tough system it sounds like. Does it encourage people to study hard, how many get burnt out?

That's very much true. I know that at least half of my forty-five person class doesn't bother to study, and of the other half most of them don't get good grades. Only five or so people get 'good' grades, and I only know two people who have 1s or 2s in all or most of the subjects. :c

Test time is when I feel terrible because of the huge pressure and the studying. Each test feels like my last :p

That's relative grading for ya :v

I've been a while off the forums...I came down with a fever thing from a really bad sunburn. Problem is, that sunburn was four days ago, and this is day 3 of feeling shitty. I hope it isn't a real disease...

Not enough money. :(
Two great gigs I want to go to around the city this weekend, I only have a bit over $20 in my bank account and $20 left over from last week's beer money, and I don't get paid 'til Monday... yeah this could be tough.

Then again I did withdraw $100 last week, buy a bunch of drinks and then spent even more on comic books the next day. >.> I guess I brought this on myself!
