Ugh, apple pie at /all/. Worst possible use for an apple in existence.

... yeah, there's quite a number of uses for apple that's categorically worse than any inclusion in pie, even pie partially constructed of components of some of said uses.

I will say it's pretty easy to bugger up apple pie, though. Most I've had were pretty sub-par. It's like buggering up pecan pie, really. Quite easy to make less than optimal.

But when it's good... damn. Just damn. It's among the things that you should be damned for experiencing -- that good. Yes.

That's a good point. For example, despite many attempts, I don't think I had a single good apple pie in my travels abroad. Even in the US it's not as common as I'd prefer.

And ultimately strawberry rhubarb IS much better.

Technically, a heathen would want a 'burn the pagan', not heretic. Heretic would be someone who said that Apple Pie was fine, Apple Pie with Icecream was fine, but what was /better/ was Apple Pie with maple syrup and a dash of lemon juice.

I agree pumpkin  or rhubarb is the best.  But apple pie is great depending on who makes it.  I've hated pretty much every store-bought apple pie I've ever tried, but man my Mom's apple pie is amazing.  Actually, all her pies are fantastic.  She can't cook anything else but for some reason is great at pie-making.

My dad is a superb cook. Lasagna, pavlova, stew, dumplings, soup, pies, you name it, he can probably cook it.

I /still/ prefer pavlova.
