My old, extremely painful headaches are back. Also, I seem to lose my balance randomly and fall over.

[EDIT] Now, everything tastes like salt. What the fuck...

Yea, all of those are signs of damage from things like stroke or brain cancer.

So despite being half blind, for the first time in about fifteen years I went to see an optometrist. Turns out I am far sighted, and in another fifteen years will most likely require glasses full time.
Some what depressing.

It's not so bad. I'm nearsighted, and require full-time glasses.

... glasses aren't that bad. I heavily recommend titanium frames, though. Any sort of memory metal, really. Everything else will break.

Or contacts. Contacts are bloody annoying, though. Still, you get to keep your acute peripheral vision with those.

Glasses are pretty impressive nowadays. M'mother's legally blind without contacts, has been for years, and has been getting worse as time passes. Still able to function fine so long as she's got those or glasses on. I personally can't see more than a blur from about a foot out, still perfectly capable with th'glasses on.

Basically takes more than near/far sightedness getting worse to cause you to go full on blind, at least if you're using the proper corrective tools. There's stuff that can cause outright blindness, but if you're getting regular (annual/bi-annual) eye exams, most of those can be caught before they go critical and prevented.

Meh, we'll have cybernetic eyes by then.  If I wasn't so lazy I'd go look up the most recent stuff I've read on it.  I think they can get like 16x16 pixel resolution on such stuff now with the current cameras and brain interfaces.

Or I could be crazy and misremembering.

That's...not terribly great. Still beats total blindness though, and like you said we have no idea what the technology will be like in 40 years.

Aye same here, i only got 2 inches now in vision without my glasses, also my left eye is going bad. Not bad is in losing vision but more like i don't focus well with it. I still have muscle dysfunction with it so it might be that now just progressing slowly. My prescription has stop dramatically changing now with minimal increments each year. alas i think my ears go before my vision :P

Still... I have never really felt comfortable being dependant on something to get by.
I pretty much developed a full on phobia of medical drugs for fear of developing a dependency, and now being told that I will need glasses seems sort of scary. I'm very much a 'carry your house on your back' kind of guy, and that becomes more and more difficult the more things become indisposable.
