Hurmph.  It's 8:20 PM and I'm actually too tired to keep working.  Like, I need to go to sleep now so I can get up and get back to work.  I've only been awake 13 hours.

I hate being mildly anemic.  It's the worst.  I'm fighting it by taking iron supplements, because I honestly need them (I've been anemic before and it was just generally terrible), but I'd really like this to be over with.

Watermelon. Eat it. It contains just as much iron as spinach.

Unless you burnt your bridges on the way out (and hell, maybe even if you did) go for it. They'll probably be overjoyed to hear from you, least if your friendship wasn't one sided.
The closest I got to burning bridges was being neglectful. That was only really in the form of unanswered emails. It was made easier by my mobile phone at the time breaking so I have no idea how many texts I've missed. Thanks for the positive view on this.

Spinach containing a lot of iron is a LieTM, btw. Even chocolate contains more.

Also, iron isn't all that healthy when overdosed, but then again so is everything.

I know, but iron is good to get into the diet when one is anemic, and the prevailing thought is spinach = iron. Watermelon is a more flavorful substitute that I use with my daughter to keep her iron count up.

Chew an iron ingot?

Also, since we have no sulphuric acid here, I went and dug myself into the radioactive ground up north for a couple hours instead.

To boost the amount of iron in your diet, try these foods:

Red meat
Egg yolks
Dark, leafy greens (spinach, collards)
Dried fruit (prunes, raisins)
Iron-enriched cereals and grains (check the labels)
Mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops)
Turkey or chicken giblets
Beans, lentils, chick peas and soybeans
Liver
Artichokes
And here's a tip: If you eat iron-rich foods along with foods that provide plenty of vitamin C, your body can better absorb the iron.

I shall call my mother and tell her to have waddiemeron (... I don't know, really) on hand when I return home this weekend.

That sounds like a good thing to be eating.  I hate spinach.

Spices for your food, too. Thyme, lemongrass and parsley are packed with the irons.

If you hate spinach, one word for you: saag. It's the base for a variety of Indian dishes (saag paneer and saag aloo are two of the most common) and it's pureed spinach mixed with lots of spices and occasionally paneer cheese to give it a little creaminess. And it is delicious.

I'm not all that crazy about munching on raw leaves myself (although a nice spinach salad with some bacon and hardboiled egg is pretty yummy), but I'll eat saag until I turn green.

Sauerkraut is the worst thing ever. I have German heredity, so I also declare all arguments in favor of sauerkraut invalid. [/blatentabuseofimaginarypower]
